2024/25 David Moyes

Looks like he's intent on a showdown with the management team imposed above his head and he's determined to put the pressure on them.

That's basically Moyes v CEO + owners.

And that's instability.
Listen I'll be honest the owners and the CEO have got far more to prove than Moyes has.

Moyes give them the perfect platform to build on from last season an up to now they haven't capitalised.

Obviously Moyes being vocal in the pressers is his way of applying pressure to the highers ups.

One thing I will say is there will be a lot of embarrassment going into the Roma game if we've got a hobbled squad while they look in good knick.

I think there will be a massive emphasis on getting players in before that game because they'll all be front and centre at BM.

Oh behave Dave. He literally dragged the club upwards when he was appointed and with a bunch of misfits. He is clearly having a pop at the running of the club and recruitment as in they need do a lot better if the club is to move forward and he is absolutely spot on. It is unbelievably poor that we are struggling to field a squad with 19 days to go till the start of the season. Even if we signed 5 more players in 19 days (which we wont) there isn't enough time to get them bedded in and fit to start the season. It is like we have learnt nothing at all after being in the gutter for past 5 years.
Of course. The hierarchy of blame is:

  • owners
  • CEO
  • transfer management team AKA 'exceptional operators'
  • Moyes
But this short term problem and his lack of blame for it in no way obscures the fact he's always played us down as a club.

I wish I was that certain.

He’s not playing us down as a club. He’s talking about us looking to get into Europe as a next step because years of being basket case relegation fodder under Moshiri has put players off coming to us.

You can’t blame any of the current management for the horror show of the last few seasons.

Well, most people can’t. You obviously can, whether it stacks up or not.

The impression i have got from him since coming back is that he has unfinished business with us and he wants to be the manager who brought the club back to being successful again or at least on the right path towards that. He can only do that if he gets the support that he needs to do it hence the necessary and justified digs.

99.9999% chance we don't see any Friedkins at BMD for this, and I'm more than happy to keep it that way personally.

No idea why Dave wants to have some public waving by the owners, as if that means anything or makes it better hahah
Because it'd be them publicly getting behind the club.

This issue will get bigger and bigger - especially if we're struggling.

People who've been "ok" or "relaxed" about their absence until now will be furious if we're not doing it on the pitch or we're not buying players.

Nailed on that.

Probably mate...But Kinnear definitely will and he's obviously going to be fielding questions to we've not seriously strengthen.

Him doing that little interview Saturday could easily come back to bite him on the bum.

He's saying everything is Rosey and it'll all come together, while Moyes is singing off a different hymn sheet at this moment in time.

Yep.

He's a poor fit for the club in that sense.

Hels a steady eddie and he'll get us safe, but I just dont think he's what we need now.

The owners should have let him go at the end of the season and gone all out for Iraola IMO. That feller will end up managing a top 4 club in this country and we should be in there for him now.
Perhaps, if that's his attitude. He should be building the project up at every opportunity, for us, the players, and potential players. Is this affecting recruitment?

"Moyes keeps playing us down"

Except he wants us back in Europe consistently - so which is it?

"In many ways, I think in the first period I was here, I think we were successful.
"We were near the bottom of the league when we took over, but we found ourselves challenging for Europe, trying to challenge the teams at the top.
"We would like to try and get Everton back to where they're challenging again for European football."

For him success for us is top half. Just that.

IMO we've outgrown a manager like Moyes. And I doubt he'll be here too much longer tbh. This has never felt like it'd be a long standing permanent appointment.

I think his European comments were said before the transfer window shambles.

I think we all have to reset our expectations.

As an ambition NOT an expectation.

It's not difficult to understand that...

Of course he's right to do that.

However, it's always been the case that he never misses an opportunity to talk the club's chances of progress down. Always has and always will. That's not a coincidence, it's self preservation - because he never likes expectation heaped on him.

As I said above: we have the worst combo of manager/transfer team/owners imaginable for where we are right now.

I don't agree mate. Moyes is just a realist and says things as he finds them. The Sunderland fans took great offense and still whinge about the fact that he said they were in a relegation battle just two game into a season. But guess what, they WERE in a relegation battle, he wasn't bullshitting!

He's also recently been quoted as saying European qualification should be the target for Everton next season, as opposed to the five year plans to finish above Brighton and Brentford that are so popular on here. That's not talking the club down at all. It's kind of bigging the club up from someone that knows that it doesn't take a five year plan to compete for a European place.
