Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Unfortunately the fans don't buy players, try as they might. We're (the club) trying to sell 30 years of mediocrity like, after however many months of the Friedkins, everything's fine...I'm not surprised we're seemingly having trouble; players and agents don't forget when it's right in their face every year and I'm sure they'd rather see proof.

Feeling vindicated by Moyes' recent statements...

Why did we get that fluff piece from Kinnear about us being “on track” and everything’s going to plan? Clearly the manager doesn’t agree. They are not aligned whatsoever. An absolute unholy mess.
We get an interview around late July / early August every season telling us everything is going well and to judge them on 1st September.

It's pretty obvious to anyone who has looked at our squad, or watched us play on Saturday, that we are clearly not on track.

This isn’t a TFG screw up or a Moyes screw up, we are going for players that are ambitious and as always players would rather play for teams in European cups than teams that are not.

We have been a basket case club for so long, it will take time. I’m just happy we are going for the profile of player.

City moving the goalposts for Mcatee is frustrating because he is one i thought we could get easily.

We’ve done this window the wrong way round. We should’ve padded the squad out with our easily obtainable targets first before we started trying to bring in players that clearly believe they’re too good for us. Why we haven’t brought in a single free agent is just baffling to me. And now we’re being linked with Brownhill when we could’ve just got him in a month ago.

We’ve been left in a position where we’re just going to have to bring in the squad players anyway, but now they’ll probably end up being the first teamers and haven’t had a full pre season.

Moyes is in the Concerned camp.

My main takeaway from that is him saying giving Evertonians a team they can be proud of “when the season begins” not at the end of the transfer window.
I'm glad to hear that because some of the squads we have fielded for August matches in recent years have been woeful. It's not coincidence our record in August is abysmal and our recruitment is also rubbish and last minute.

Sounds like certain players are just p1ssing us about: Luis/Fofana/Mcatee, we are Everton, none of these no marks are bigger, Koff them off and move onto more realistic targets ie Fellows, Hackney
And unfortunately, Everton is synonymous in most peoples' minds with mediocrity and bad football. You don’t change that narrative with signing Tom Fellows. That's the unfortunate truth of the situation.

I think players are rejecting us because we are aiming for very good players who want to join bigger clubs that are playing in Europe if we were targeting average players I dare say we’d have plenty in now.

I’d rather aim high and get quality in later than aim low and get average in sooner - Frustrating as it is.
Spot on.

Many of you seem to have been asleep for much of the last 10 years...

…the debacle was having so many players out of contract at the same time. Some of us were warning about zero continuity planning way in advance.
This regime has a mess to fix and it’ll take quite a few windows to do so.

The squad is threadbare but the team for Leeds on 18th Aug should be as least as good as the one that finished the season so effectively under Moyes. The window closes on 1st September and I expect we’ll be doing plenty of business up to that date.

So far, so good.
It definitely seems like the manager would disagree entirely

The thing is though it isn’t an either or on quality starters vs improve depth players. That is a false dichotomy because it can be done without significantly limiting resources. We need two CM. We need two guys who can play RW even if one is also cover for 10 or LW. We just need someone competent at RB in case O’Brien has to play CB due to Tarkowski, Branthwaite injuries. There are cheap/free options out there who can address some of the floor raising squad improvement at key positions whilst we stay patient hunting 2-3 players that can raise the ceiling. Shoring up the foundations only helps you when you want to add another storey to your home!
