Silly move for the club to put those blue bricks for statues.
Was always going to end up with angry older men telling us to put their heroes there.
Let the new generation see a new era of heroes?
Rightly or wrongly, many have bemoaned the lack of Everton identity in and around the new stadium. Dixie Dean and the Holy Trinity are this club's immortals (there may be a few others who could merit a place, but they certainly do).... they don't just represent a single era, they represent our History and identity, and will be worthy of their place regardless of whatever the future brings. As regards duplication of statues, I don't see any problem. The art form lends itself to it, which is why many great statues have been reproduced multiple times for different locations. The thing is, how many clubs have 2 stadiums which merit it? The new ones could perhaps be of a different scale to befit the different setting. Failing that, commission entirely new ones. Of course the danger then, is that the new depictions might not match the quality or capture the essence of their subject(s), in the way those already created have (there have been some absolute howlers on that score). Hence the reason why a basic recast is the normal and safest approach, and indeed a further celebration of the sculptor's original work.
