Match Thread Everton v West Ham. Wed 30th July. 23.30

2-0 to Everton.
West Ham fan at work isn't keen on Potter and his playing out from the back tactic. He also doesn't like their 3 at the back formation. But he told me to keep an eye on their young defensive midfielder Potts who plays just like Declan Rice so he says. And to people of a certain vintage Potts is the son of the West Ham legend Steve Potts

This will be a win for the mighty Everton, with two goals for Nathan Patterson, whose performance will be so sublime that even @davek will be jumping for joy and singing his praises.

I just rewatched the first half v Bournemouth as I only saw the second half live. Thought we were excellent. NDiaye, Alcaraz and Tim all looked very good. Beto seemed a bit more polished than last season too. I reckon we just tired second half because we were by far the better side first half.

I think the defensive breakdown was the more concerning issue. The first goal nobody really stepped up to challenge and the others were comedy hour. Of course heads would go down and they would get tired in the heat. Hopefully we bring some finishing against Fulham because that is what we have lacked this preseason.

100%.

They made 10 substitutions by 20 minutes into the second half and I think we had made two or three.

All of that in 36 degree heat. Another two/three players before the season starts in addition to Branthwaite/Tarjowski fit and Barry some more minutes under his belt and we are much better.

I’m not worried about our defence at all given we were missing half of it. We do need to be more clinical though.
