Since a year ago, we are utterly and miraculously transformed.

The club still exists.
Bramley Moore, one of the best stadiums in the World, is actually built.
Our debt is sorted.
We finished midtable.
Moyes is the manager.
American billionaires own us.
Backroom staff has been properly sorted.
We have no PSR issues.
We have money to spend.

It's a miracle.

Why wouldn't we be optimistic?

It's a form of loyalty bonus that most agents insert into contracts these days as standard. Although, not every player will have them, just the majority.

Effectively, the player waives it if they instantly sign elsewhere. Like I said, just another mad quirk of football ans agents.

The thing is if I was a club I’d just sort of refuse to put that in the contract. Is the player actually gonna walk away from the whole contract if they don’t get the month’s extra wages at the end of it? What a weird thing every way you slice it.

So, Doucoure and DCL have just been paid another 4 weeks salary by Everton for basically being unwanted? I can’t help but feel this might upset a few people.
In case anybody is wondering, that’s appx £1m. Probably why we are not getting players in early to save on the wages.

Clubs want to do whatever they can to get players to sign. When it is literally just one extra month's salary that most other clubs will offer anyway, it would make them seem stingy or unserious to player and agent. All just a scam really.

It's less than 3 weeks till we play competitive matches and our squad is far too small and no better than last season. I dont think there has been any real improvement to the starting 11 either.

I doubt Aznou starts until maybe the Carabao, possibly later. Bearing in mind he was at the CWC and I believe hadn’t even started a pre season with Bayern. Plus in general I think he’ll be a little way off being an immediate starter.

I think Doucoure is utter mate, so you'd get no argument from me there. But there will always be someone mad enough to do it!

I'd also agree with you, but that's why I wouldn't be a good negotiator on football contracts, because my response to everything would be: 'what do you need that a week for you greedy git? That's more than a nurse earns in a year!'

We could use a couple players for depth, but we are now down to "needing" 3 more players in my opinion. A RB, a RW, and a CM. The recruitment team can now just focus on those 3, and if you believe the rumors about Fofana, Luiz, Grealish and Kubo, we may be close to two of them.

I still think RB should be #2 priority behind RW, hopefully the Maitland-Niles links are them trying.

We would need 2 wingers: we only have 2 natural wingers ATM. But you are right time for this statement signing (unless it is Maitland Niles lol)

When you are negotiating a 5 year contract (13M) that has a strong possibility of ending early if the player gets sold before the 5 years are up, I would not think you are too concerned about the pay being 1 month in arrears at the end of the contract... possibly.

There's optimistic and there's irrational. Seems to be all or nothing with some fans. Having an even keel is not an Evertonian trait. I should say Liverpudlian trait, seeing how the RS are too.
