Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

AMN isn’t a fancy top end signing. But not every signing is going to be a first choice starter. We need to improve the squad depth and quality so the drop off when someone gets injured isn’t as big.

He is an improvement on much of our bench and is borderline improvement on starting 11 in my view.

Another thing mate to factor in, our recruitment by all looks if it is focusing primarily on young players, currently on our side we have a few veteran experiences pros, Coleman - glorified coach by now, Gueye whose 36 soon and Tarks whose 33 and all in their last year. If we are trying to turn over the squad then yeah we will need some players more experienced than 19-22yo lads
This is fair, but I would be more inclined to sign a CM who was of an experienced age given our other options are young aside from Gueye, and an experienced striker to play backup to Beto and Barry.

At this point before slotting anyone into the XI or on the bench we have to actually sign them first. How many and whom they will get over the line is the question over the next 10 days or so.

Anything after that is more than likely to go down to the final week / day, so this period is probably the most critical of the summer, unless we have a deadline day to rival or better that in 2013.

I agree that the depth we have at RB have their problems, but that leads to another point which is that the club did bad business this summer in regards to the RB position. We shouldn't have given Coleman a new contract, we should let Patterson go and we should have been looking at signing 2 RBs - one starter and one backup. As it is though, we are in a position where we *should* have enough cover that the player we are targeting should be proper standout first team quality, rather than just a squad player type.
Am not make excuses for the club or manager but we need to bear in mind the whole recruitment team has been turned on it's head.

To be fair Thelwell he probably had a handful of RBs earmarked but he's ultimately been moved on.

This is why I mentioned above that it's not ideal having Moyes lead this window and the incomings we'll be more about bodies than proper strategic, thought out transfers.

The fact that we're sniffing round Grealish and Tete for that matter told me this early.

I understand it's the first window under the new regime but the Coleman deal to me has all the air of sentimentality which is something the club needs to cut out immediately. Even the DCL stuff did, despite offering him a lower deal. We need to be more ruthless when ending ties with players aswell as when signing them.

We're gonna need two right backs over the next few windows. Patterson might get sold, Coleman will retire after this season I reckon and JOB should be moving to his proper position with Tarky getting older.

It's possible we bring in AMN this summer as a nice sqaud filler then next summer go big on a young expensive right back and AMN becomes the back up.

We can't solve every position permanently this summer.
This. I am happy with a compromise at right back for a year if it means getting better players where we need them more.

I think the Coleman one is more about having him around for stadium transition and having an old head in dressing room due to...not as yet,a high influx of players.

It's kinda of been mooted by Moyes.

We all know Coleman's body isn't up to PL Footy

Yeah Tbh first choice could well still be JOB anyway, AMN back up and Coleman emergency if he's ever fit.

I think atm Moyes likes having one offensive and one defensive full back tucking in making it effectively a back three in possession anyway.

We may evolve to Baines and Coleman 2.0 but I think that's a while off yet 👍

There's a poll in itself how many games will Coleman play! I'd be surprised if it's more than the odd cup game start against lower div oppo and half a dozen sub appearances

I think we will sign that CM and think it'll be Luiz mate. Striker I'm not sure on, got the feeling we will loan Chermiti out - we should, so depends on if Moyes looks at the two lads and reckons it's enough, both never really had any injuries - but we are Everton so.....

Agreed EG but why couldn't he do that as a coach?
What Jazzy says. Just make him a coach instead of part of the playing squad.

In many ways keeping Coleman around likely stopped Moyes insisting on bringing a player over he'd had at West Ham, most managers do so, fact is he doesn't need to if he has Coleman who he's worked with before in the dressing room.

Watch the excuses roll out if we lose our first 2 games of how we weren’t prepared because of squad depth.

Branners and Tarks do make a massive difference to the team which started the other night of course, but we have to pray we get no injuries on this tour or the headache just gets bigger for Moyes and his staff.
