Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Lots of noise & honesty - now time for Plan Bs to be approached

Kinnear:
“We’d have liked to have done our business earlier but we’re well on track. It’s about finding the right player. The structure is good - we won’t be making mistakes in the transfer market”.

Moyes:
‘We’ve been in for a lot of really good players. Unfortunately, a lot of them have said no at the moment.”

Pickford:
“We Need New Players We Need A Competitive Squad”
Kinnear: "we are well on track"...no we're not. Shocking comment that, and confirms my first impression of the guy. Corporate crap...

I don’t think that article tells us anything we didn’t know.

Bigger name players were linked with whether that’s McAtee, Grealish, Luiz, Fofana etc are going to take their time to assess options and yes possibly hope that other options become available.

Doesn’t mean they will. You haven’t missed out on a target until they go somewhere else and few apparent targets have. There are only so many clubs with the budget to go round chasing these targets and for the first time in a few years we are one of them.

That's the point I'd start getting concerned actually, when those I believe are our main targets start to move elsewhere.

Btw, I think we have seen that not many have so far, the only one who did was Delap and our response was to pretty quickly get our second choice over the line.

Makes me believe our first and second choices in the positions we need are still all on the table.

Moyes also said they're saying 'no at the moment' – which you could read as that they're waiting for other offers. Better that than 'I said no, stop calling me you freaks'.

Waiting until the end of the window isn't out strategy. It's just the way things have turned out because the players we want aren't available yet. Are you happy for us to get our 20th target for every position for the sake of a few weeks and not even try to get our top targets?
There's a big difference between our 20th choice and first choice

We should certainly have at least 5 or 6 options at each position though and we are clearly at the point of the summer where we need to turn to other more realistic targets. We need a mixture of squad players and starters so there is no reason not to bring at least 2 or 3 in and then we can wait on others. We can't wait on 6 or 7 signings though, that makes no sense.

It’s mad now that a lad with one decent season at Lyon and a kid from City who can’t make the first team are apparently such top players that they’re swerving guaranteed first team football.

People might have had a point about Moyes targeting unrealistic players back in the day when it was Toure Arshavin Hazard Riquelme etc. he was going after but really Fofana and Mcatee do not seem to be that crazy as targets.
I doubt they're even the players he's talking about. It's obviously impossible to know but I would guess he just means on a more general level rather than specific targets, like we've pitched things to agents who've just flat out turned it down, plus we know it happened with Delap. I would guess the ones that have got as far as us hearing about them have been a bit more receptive to the original idea, although that obviously doesn't mean they'll actually sign when it comes to it.

They aren't but one is obviously choosing his next move very carefully and at 22 I don't blame him as he gets it wrong he's potentially messing up his career - the other just seems to want a big club move.

We aren't waiting until the end of the window, though- we are actively trying, very hard it seems, to sign players. The issue is, convincing them to come. People would moan if we signed average players but moan also when we try to sign quality players.
We almost always wait till the end of the window. It certainly looks like a strategy to me.

It's definitely what we need to do. Unfortunately for every Ndiaye, it's likely you'll find a Lindstrom. If we can't get the players we want then the ones we bring in have to be on short contracts. Filling the squad with poor players on long term deals can't be something we do again.
Lindstrom was simply wrong type. Loan market is really difficult because PL level players in that market are few and far between. Lindstrom showed glimpses of what he can do but I'm not sure if he could do it consistently in the PL like he did in Bundesliga. Napoli made the same mistake of playing him in the wing rather than behind the striker. At Eintracht he scored 12 goals in two seasons and was good playing that position which made Napoli cough up 30 million euros for him.

It's the Bee Gee's you tone deaf moron.
About 10 years ago I was in a 70s tribute band, so spent ages learning loads of songs from that era.

One morning I was making coffee in the morning and I swore I could hear Bee-Gees music coming from the fridge.

Anyway, I opened the fridge to check and it turned out it was just the chives talking.

When did Moyes say that ?

Need two at least mate, Tims not good enough, Armstrong is too young, Doucoure left, Mangala left, basically leaves us with a 36yo Gueye and Jimmy G, with Alcaraz at a push a third option - but one Moyes I don't think likes there.

I'd say we need 2 plus another who may be able to cover there also.

Given the comments on extending Gueye I honestly think Moyes would love to upgrade both him and Garner this summer.

Trying to think back but don't think Moyes midfield when first here ever had an outright defensive midfielder really unless my memory is playing tricks. Maybe Fellaini was the closest....

Wheres this rhetoric that Iroegbunam isnt good enough. He was one of our best players at the start of last season.

Hes only just turned 22 last month and i think hes fine as a option as he improves
