Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

What are the chances for at least 2-3 signings this week Everton?

3 weeks till our first EPL game
It depends entirely on whether they keep chasing the extremely difficult to attain or pivot to more achievable targets just to reinforce the squad a bit. They can even do that without over-spending eg target Coufal or Semedo, Brownhill or Harrison heaven help us plus Aznou. That would allow them to continue to pursue top targets until later in the window but it wouldn’t win them many friends. My gut is they give the current approach one more week before they pivot but 🤷🏻‍♂️

How much more aggressive can you be? We can't force a player to sign.

We probably went for Fofana in June and he said no. Now no one wants him he might be a bit more receptive, though I still think we're being used by the agent
"We probably". You don't know that.

You can be more aggressive by placing a bid and contacting the agent and giving deadlines. If for instance these Luiz rumours are true, why wait for weeks if he wants to move? Give a deadline and move on. This risks club being woefully short in numbers & having to sign just about anyone they can on transfer deadline day just to make the bare minimum.

Vagiannidis another, if we really were interested why did we wait for so long? Now he's going to Portugal anyways. If he really needed a month to consider then club should have approached other candidates as well. At this rate we still won't have a right-back come September. First we spent a month talking with Tete, then another waiting for Vagiannidis. Now it sounds Fofana is basically waiting for better offers and will only sign with us if those don't come. What's the chance of that? Highly-rated 20-year old winger from Ligue 1 doesn't interest anyone else?

Bluestevon, if you buy Hackney you big name hunting at RW and a versatile forward. If you sign Fellows you big name hunt at CM and versatile forward. At some point you simply have to commit to decisive actions rather than carrying on daydreaming. No issue with the ambition they have shown , it is actually refreshing, but it has not worked. What happens next, and how quickly, is now key. They cannot afford to compound their initial misjudgement with more.

Conversely mate, if I'm say the agent if Forfana and the club is trying to sell them how big their ambitions are and who they are after, and then I see them go and bring in two championship players as starters - I'd assume their project is just bs and not pick the phone up again.

We can’t just hoarde players that don’t improve us. We actually have to pay them and footballers earn a lot. We want a committed squad that will improve in ability and value over time. We don’t want an ever changing squad of mercenaries who don’t want to be here or loan players who know they’ll be here for a season only.

We’re not where we want to be yet but the comments from both Kinnear and Moyes suggest that players will be arriving. If people want romantic and want Everton to get on the phone to Coufal’s agent asap then fine but I’d rather let Moyes and the team try for the players they want. Take Fellaini for example, he arrived at the latest possible minute and look how important he was over the seasons that followed and how much he left for. I just don’t think Moyes is interested in hoarding deadwood. Harrison Young and Doucoure would still be here if he was.

"Lesser" players can also be effective if they are correct type for the system. That's how you can differentiate because every of the over 100 top clubs in Europe have the same data tools these days. They all know who Fofana is. One way of finding good value would be to find players that are good for _your_ team but not necessarily for every team. Another way would be to do what Thelwell did well, find players who had a down year, like Ndiaye. Moyes did this during his first stint as well, Arteta being the most obvious example.

With all due respect Brighton are a nothing club and are simply happy being self sufficient and running a steady ship. That sounds disrespectful but they’ve never had aspirations to evolve and be successful. We’ve had a long proud history of success and unfortunately for the younger fan base, all they’ve ever known is a badly run club that sees 7th position as a success a la Brighton/Fulham.

We shouldn’t be aiming to copy the model of a Brighton football club. Good scouting, signing talented young players then selling them on for a healthy profit is absolutely fine if you have no ambition to be anything else other than a self sufficient mid table nothing club.

The point still stands, at some point you have to pay the big wages if you want to compete at the top end of the table. If you copy Brighton’s playbook, sign talent at 20 years old on low wages, and then inevitably lose them when they outgrow you and are demanding triple their current wage, then you’ll never progress as a football club to anything other than mid table fodder.

You can’t simply rely on finding these unpolished gems on a regular basis either. It isn’t an exact science and is harder than it seems.
To be fair to Brighton, their approach means they actually could now afford to go out and buy a number of top quality players that could help them compete at the highest level.

Over the past 3-4 seasons they have made literally hundreds of millions in profits on player sale by pursuing their 'find a young gem' philosophy.

Christ the Moyes comments doing the rounds are a jolly way to stat the week eh?

Kick in the plums sir?

Yes please.

I hope he's just downplaying things cause it sounds a bit like excuse making. Fair enough if your targeting someone whose levels above us - but based on the names linked they've not that far above. Depends how well you can sell the move, and possibly just need to over pay slightly on the wages.

Do get the feeling it's a case of IF one comes in then it could open the floodgates as well, nobody wants to be the first to sign up until they see others do so.

Why Forfana was a good target if you got him it would resonate with other players and agents, also why Mcatee would be similarly a great buy, can see the logic the question only time will answer ofc is will they get that first one in.

I would rather have Brownhill than Tim. There you go, it just needed to be said.
I’d take Brownhill to allow Tim to go out on loan to Sheffield Utd.

There has to be a couple free agents like Brownhill and Regulion that would bolster the squad.

Quality wise first 11, I have no problems with we are a solid lower - mid half side, however that said it’s ever increasingly becoming a squad game, if we took 2/3 long term injuries we are 100% back in a relegation battle.

Big fat lol at coming at me with "you don't know that" and then making up a bunch of scenarios that you have no idea whether the club actually did or not. If you think Moyes is just sat spinning round on a chair in his office waiting for some Greek right back to call him back then you're a lost cause.

There are plenty of good quality players that aren't high profile. It is the recruitment and scouting job to locate and identify them and give the Manager the tools that he needs. Target high profile sure but have a big backup list for if or when they say no. To only have 2 actual new signings at this point is pretty pathetic tbh.

Can see us moving down our list of potential signings after reading that Moyes interview. I expect some Harrison type players coming in for numbers. Moyes is worried there.

The reality is we're not in a position to be setting the rules, we need the players more than the players need us. If we went to Fofana in June and said right tell us by the end of the week or else he'd have just laughed and said yeah jog on lads, by waiting we at least have an opportunity as some of the interest he was expecting may not have materialised.

This is far from ideal, I'm not saying there haven't been issues in our approach or that people don't have a right to be annoyed/concerned, far from it. It's just daft to give it the big 'well we obviously should have just done X, Y and Z' line though, it's pretty clearly not as simple as that.
