Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

If they are struggling to attract players you need to do what city did and offer more money. It’s that simple.

If you believe in the quality of the scouting and analysis it shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s very straight forward. If you don’t offer the big wages you don’t get to sign the top quality players it’s that simple. It’s all well and good Jacko saying the other day here that we won’t offer the big wages anymore because we’ll go bust or/and “get another points deduction”, and that’s fine, but we then all have to completely lower our expectations of the football club and accept that we’ll always be competing for mid table obscurity with the likes of Fulham and Brighton.

You can’t aim for the stars if you’re paying out mid-lower league wages.

You could say that for any player in their late 20’s early 30’s then so why target any of them? Not sure that’s the case anyway I’d imagine it’s a small minority who’d take that attitude but that’s where you do your homework and look in to the personality of the player.

Gareth Barry was signed at 33 and gave us a fantastic couple of years.

Quickest I've seen a player win over Goodison that, bust his gut getting back to make a last ditch sliding tackle and became an instant favourite

Sick of the excuses. Maybe start going for top class European talent when we have an actual squad of players first and foremost. We need bodies to fill a matchday squad more than quality at this stage of proceedings. An absolute disaster of a window.

Seriously Mike, just hang on, if we go into Leeds this way fair play, but we are clearly trying to build something which isn't a band aid fix, and long term that's thinking we've not had for a very very long time, and we need that.

Yeah it's hugely about the character of the player in those terms.

Is Grealish like Barry in that way, gut instinct says he is maybe but can see that happening but sadly too late to effect anything prior.
Age was far less of a factor for Barry than it is Grealish. Barry never had pace, pace was in his speed of thought. He sat and dictated play and there’s far more longevity in that kind of player. Grealish running the channels and relying on pace as an attacking player has far less longevity. He isn’t at the write off stage yet mind you, he still has plenty to offer in the short term so a loan would be good.

Look at how Sterling dropped off a cliff when he approached 30, his effectiveness diminished alarmingly. You need the younger energy on the flanks IMO.

The other side to this though is the recruitment team being savvy enough to identify the right 'bargins' across the world who have a potential high upside, which tend to be younger players from 'weaker' leagues. Other clubs have had success in doing this (Brighton et al) so you'd imagine that it should be a strategy that we should at least be trying hard to emulate given the position that we're currently in..

This Aznou kid seems this type of profile at least, which is a positive.

Flawless logic again. Fill up the wage budget with literally anyone, and then save whatever is left to attract the the big money signings that are currently rejecting us.

You can start fine tuning the squad to your liking once you actually have a squad in the first place. The season kicks off 3 weeks today, or registration deadline for the Leeds game is in 18 days time. We don’t have a right winger to speak of at the football club, we have one central midfielder of any quality who is 36. You can’t dress this up as anything other than a disgrace I’m afraid.
