Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Huuuuuuuuge week in the history of this Club.

Hardest part is selling ‘our project’ to prospective targets.

I’m absolutely convinced if these players walked through the doors of Bramley Moore & spoke with Moyes directly, things would be infinitely easier.

Holidays, pre-season tours & still relatively early in the window makes it a desperately frustrating situation.

You only overcome that frustration by over-paying & we’ve been down that road far too many times before.

4 in by Monday week … vault me.

Moyes interview with The Athletic on Friday
This is the issue some people had with Moyes returning and the kind of pragmatic coach/person he is. He’s basically admitting here that he’d prefer older players who are already at their peak but they ain’t interested in a project, but the younger ones “who are up and coming” probably are and are easier to attract.

Well this is a blessing in disguise then because shouldn’t that be the strategy anyway? Targeting the younger talent with huge potential and upside?

This aligns with his comments the other day in the Red Echo that he’d been targeting players 25+ but has come up short.

Yes you shouldn’t rule out older players, I’d jump at the chance of Paulhina at 30 years old for example, he’d walk in to our midfield and completely transform it. But surely the transfer policy in the main, is signing more younger players who are clearly talented, making their way up the ladder, and who’s clubs are not yet asking a king’s ransom because they’re not quite at that top level yet.

I'd be genuinely tempted to match Lyons demands and pay what both City and the rs want for Mcatee and Elliot.

Three young players seeing us after them all at once would maybe send a big signal about the clubs ambitions

The thing is Paulinha could also turn up figuring he will never get back to that European top level club again and just take a contract and play a retirement 3-4 years out.

We need another Kevin Campbell type signing.

A player who other players respect and who sends out the message, that it`s okay to sign for Everton.

Who that is nowadays I have no idea !

If they are struggling to attract players you need to do what city did and offer more money. It’s that simple.

If you believe in the quality of the scouting and analysis it shouldn’t be a problem.

You could say that for any player in their late 20’s early 30’s then so why target any of them? Not sure that’s the case anyway I’d imagine it’s a small minority who’d take that attitude but that’s where you do your homework and look in to the personality of the player.

Gareth Barry was signed at 33 and gave us a fantastic couple of years.

McCann would actually fit that mould mate, bit that we will or indeed maybe should be after him, but can see why we had an interest.

Luiz if have said also, but his no show at training sent a bad signal.

Yeah it's hugely about the character of the player in those terms.

Is Grealish like Barry in that way, gut instinct says he is maybe but can see that happening but sadly too late to effect anything prior.
