Transfer Rumour Malick Fofana

The other side of the coin , I suppose , is that Harrison does have some attributes which can contribute to the squad .
He works hard , and is decent defensively.
As someone to introduce to the game to help protect a lead whilst retaining some offensive ( don’t laugh !) threat , he is useful.
He also knows the squad and manager.
But I really hope we can do better and can see no reason why we can’t.

If we reach Jack Harrison on our list then the window has been a failure.

Chelsea are apparently selling Felix to a club in the middle East a year after they signed him. There will be plenty more examples of that going forward.

CL clubs need players that can influence games now and if a player can't do that yet they can fall away.

CL have a lot of their business done already, Fofana would appear to be down any shopping list they may have whereas he would be top of ours.

Any of the big clubs would happily spend on him in a couple of years if he does well and the player will certainly be able to include escape clauses in the contract.
I’m not disputing any of that in theory .
But to criticise any player who chooses to challenge himself at the highest level rather than coming to a club that has done nothing but avoid relegation for 3 decades is viewing events through extremely thick blue tinted lenses .
In aiming for this quality of player , we are attempting to kick -start our progression which is a laudable but high risk strategy.
Maybe we should have tried to lure a higher quality manager who could have helped attract a higher quality player ?
But events overtook us in that regard .

Tears, can't believe the player who has been waiting for a club in the champo league, and has been turning down clubs left right and centre as a result, is waiting for a club in the champo league.

Someone at the club needs to get back into the art of tapping up to know if players are actually interested
It's the work of agents...I am sure the player was advised not to close the door on us straight away...drag a few days until other clubs, the one you want show up. Then if nobody show up, you change your stance. It's all agent work on behalf of their clients. It's disgusting and probably needs more regulations, something no doubt the big club will be against.

Players like him play well for lower European sides to get into a CL team.

Instead of having to overpay on fee and wages to poach him off a CL team, how about we just become that lower European side and buy him from Gent first?

Fofana to Lyon: 15m
Fofana leaving Lyon: 40m+

Jashari leaving Brugge: 5m
Jashari leaving Brugge: 40m+

If I can figure this out sat in my undies watching anime I’m sure a PL club can.

It's also about their own personal sponsorship deals, you'll get a far better boot deal if f you're for example signing for real Madrid than for Everton even if you never play a minute at Madrid

Appearance, win, goal and assist - there is a lot wrapped up in it mate.

That said someone like Thireno Barry came here rather then hit the CL with Villareal.

Lets keep perspective with this chap, Lyon were an ok outfit last year and hes gone from Genk, to there, we were all over Nuamah 6 months ago without a thought for this lid.

Not really about this lad specifically, more a general point. A while ago a player would expect a big move after 5 good years, now they seem to expect it after 5 good games. Maybe I’m just an old fart, but they want to run before they can walk.
An excellent point. The answer of course is that it has nothing to do with ambition and everything to do with money and 'fame'. Too many players want to bask in the fame of being associated with the champions league club even if rarely playing.
If a young player with 'potential' to be a champions league player is TRULY ambitious, then he would choose to play at a club where he could back himself to become a stand out performer.
Then (if he can back up his self belief) he would attract attention from top clubs that intended actually playing him.

Most players wont see us as their first choice option or as where they will want to be playing in 2/3 years.
Its up to us to improve as a team to convince them otherwise.

Yeh and that’s fine, but we should be signing players that think “yeh play well for these and I get my big move” not “oh well, guess I can just go to these for a year if CL clubs don’t want me now”. Different mentality altogether.
