Travel thread 3.0

Is a lot cooler than Lisbon, temperature wise, but should still be nice in Sept. I’d do a boat tour up the Douro. They rave about a local meal called Francesinha which is just a pile of bread with meats and an egg on top. Just a stodgy mess.

Can’t remember any good restaurants off the top of my head but there are plenty. There was a bar called Bar With Pool Table which showed sport on a stinking tele and had a pool table and was like a dirty barn. Recommended

Got rubbered on the port cellar tours which are interesting if you’re into it but a lot of people do them just cos it’s the done thing so I wouldn’t bother if you’re not into port or the process of making it.

Church of St Francis is worth a look around. Mainly for the mad skull and bones room.

Cheers pal, yeh port is a massive no-go for me, once filled a wine glass up with it and took a huge gulp as I thought it was red wine and wanted to die 😂

Will check out the other spots. My mate will deffo want to do the river tour.

Same vibes at Guangzhou?

Boracay & Palawan Philippines.
Looks amazing. Would love to go somewhere out in the far east and that was originally our plan. However the Mrs is in early stages of IVF so can’t have any injections that would be needed to go over there. Same with Tanzania as that looks amazing as well.

So a bit restricted to more of the Atlantic side. Aruba looks good but flights seem to be a nightmare from the UK in February.

Fair enough, probably save it for when the future bambino is a few years old.

Filipinos love kids so you'd have a lot of help and care.

Not sure what injections you'd need? Ive never had anything new for Asia.

Bali is different mate.

For Bali think of an island with traffic jams, loads (yes LOADS) of drunk scummy Australians in the 'local' spots (Seminyak, Kuta etc), drunk off their nuts morning to night with the women yelling like coked up yanks all the time and every sentence a question.

Not to mention the locals who will try and harass you to buy all sorts of crap. Bred to scam.

A lot of 'nature' meaning a 'Monkey Forest' in a dump of a place called UBUD + a few other formerly average/good level beaches ruined with stray dogs, trash and dodgy people. The snaps of rice paddies masterfully leave out the building sites next door and pile ups of trash.

Its a place where you see the influencers populate in the media but guaranteed they dont leave the hotel aside from 1 day to pop around the sites for a snap.

When you have mosquitoes everywhere, unfriendly monkeys and more stray dogs walking along broken pavements and on the beaches themselves than you would ever see in a lifetime then you're going to need shots of everything.

Places like Boracay & Palawan are actual island paradise with the white beaches and amazing coloured water. Friendly people everywhere and you may get the odd local asking you to buy something, a simple "no thanks" and they wont bother you again.

Also 4hrs flight between them so shots i dont think would be needed for Philippines.

wow, could you get any more negative stereotypes into one post? 🤣🤣🤣

Bogan is an aussie term. You will recognise them by their bintang singlets, horrible tattoos, fake Oakley sunnies, mullet and the general rudeness they display while getting drunk at 10am. They apparently get bonus points if they sit at the pool bar drinking for 8 hours without once leaving their seat to pee.

Other than that, we're a great bunch of blokes 😎

hahaha...never heard "bogan" before but this is the wikipedia photo accompanying the article for Bogan. Given your description, this picture says a thousand words, indeed.

Likely to be heading to Bangladesh (not sure which part just yet, probably Dhaka) for work in the near future. Part of the World I've not been to before so if anyone has worked or just travelled there before any info or tips welcomed.

Just back from a 5 day break in our happy place (Croatia) and took in another trip to Montenegro which has really come on leaps and bounds since we were there in 2019. Great place if anyone is looking for somewhere to try that's easily accessible.

Also interested in any feedback on Albania which keeps cropping up in our travel discussions.

I loved Albania. I had 5 weeks in Croatia, Montenegro and Albania last year, Albania was my clear favourite.
Tirana is a really cool city - ahead of Montenegro in terms of tourism but not as evolved as Croatia's. Think of it as the Manchester of the Adriatic (maybe not the best analogy on a scousers forum though 🤣) but it just has that same type of working class, vibrant, creative don't give a feck attitude, and the women are gorgeous- it's like there are 100,00 Dua Lipa clones walking around. Prices are similar to Montenegro. The walking tours are really informative, some of the stories they tell of the communism years are a real eye opener, and the tour of the nuclear bunker in the foothills was amazing. The cable car trip up the mountain is a must do - amazing views over the city and beyond on clear days.

We also spent some time in Vlore - the beaches are ok (Being a West Australian I do have very high standards) but the foreshore with all it's restaurants is lovely, but a bit pricier. Lots of tourists were just getting beers from the local corner shops and drinking them on the beach which is prefectly acceptable.

The only negative experience I had was the little fish that constantly nibble your toes while you are in the water - little bar stewards 🤣
