Forget Al Myers - Chris Beesley says we’ve not bid for Fofana and Aznou deal isn’t agreed šŸ˜‚
He defo has Aznou idea

15 mins in. Benfica 0-0 Fenerbahce.

Despite all of Benfica’s shots, corners and possession, it’s an absolute Fred masterclass. Rios on the ropes, all over the place struggling to deal with Fred’s movement and technique.

The Ref should blow for half time now to put Rios out of his misery. It’s embarrassing to watch a professional footballer being schooled like this.

Who cares

If you think Jarrad signing a new deal means he won’t be sold, you’re very likely to be disappointed.

It will (and needs to) continue to be the business model for (in all likelihood) the foreseeable future. Almost every club in the world is a ā€œselling clubā€

The difference needs to be that we sell at proper prices, and in such a way that we have the replacement buttoned up (or ideally already at the club)

The selling bit of Branthwaite is something myself and @ElGato had already covered so no disappointment there.

This thread moves so fast though so things get lost really easily. šŸ‘

Wouldn’t surprise me if we took a punt on Maitland-Niles…

Aaron Lennon. Face that could curdle milk but actually a crackin personality.

Definitely with Branthwaite.

Majority grasp the significance of the contract whilst also appreciating the goal is to make a massive profit with him between 1 amd 3 years down the line, unless our or his priorities change. It sets a precedent that transfers of our better players will be on our own terms, which is only one part of the wider strategy. The multilayer plans (and yes plans can be broken/changed) is not really what the average fan should be concerned with. The acid test is that most of this goes on in the background with little fanfare and the onfield stuff looks after itself.

Maybe a little over simplified on my part and there will be a drama or 2 ro come but more + than - for me.

@BirkenheadBlue just for info

I think we've played it the right way with Branthwaite.

We need to be signing young and promising players who will grow into our team. Either the clubs who want them meet our valuation or we hopefully can persuade them that this is as good a place as any if those top clubs don't come in for them.

We can't be doing the 26-27 year old cast offs begging for a massive wage to even consider us.

I don't think we did sell at the first opportunity in the Moshiri era. Who would you identify in that category? Anyone we moved on was either because we didn't want them or they didn't want to stay here. The only one I can think of who I didn't want sold was Richarlison (He had earned it) and James (I hope you've already stubbed your toe today Benitez). All the rest of them were stinking the place out.
I CBA to go through and identify all the players who, in my opinion (and it would be my opinion) that I'd like to have seen us keep longer into their contracts so that we could progress further with them in the team.

And if I did I'm sure you'd pick them apart based on things like PSR or the player wanting away

But then I'd counter by suggesting that with a better vision we might have been able to keep them

So I'll save us the time there

If a player wants to leave for one of the top clubs I think we might struggle to keep them. But selling to Tottenham, Villa, etc. just because they've offered us the asking price? Hopefully those days are behind us

We got good money for Richy and Onana.

You dont keep players who want to move, IMO.
