Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

This is key, for too long we've been comfortable being the stepping stone and that's it: happy to sell our best players because that's the 'business model'

The Branthwaite contract is for me the best bit of business we've done this window on that basis

Shows that we are serious about improving our position and not happy with permanent mid table mediocrity and being a top 6 finishing school

If you think Jarrad signing a new deal means he won’t be sold, you’re very likely to be disappointed.

It will (and needs to) continue to be the business model for (in all likelihood) the foreseeable future. Almost every club in the world is a “selling club”

The difference needs to be that we sell at proper prices, and in such a way that we have the replacement buttoned up (or ideally already at the club)

players see us as a club

trying to go places

so don’t want to go

One day, maybe, but the other poster is right, for the health of the club we need to say "come help us get into Europe, and then you can move onto one of the biggest clubs".

We really need to start generating transfer funds each summer. We basically have like one major saleable asset right now in Branthwaite and that's it.

Definitely with Branthwaite.

Majority grasp the significance of the contract whilst also appreciating the goal is to make a massive profit with him between 1 amd 3 years down the line, unless our or his priorities change. It sets a precedent that transfers of our better players will be on our own terms, which is only one part of the wider strategy. The multilayer plans (and yes plans can be broken/changed) is not really what the average fan should be concerned with. The acid test is that most of this goes on in the background with little fanfare and the onfield stuff looks after itself.

Maybe a little over simplified on my part and there will be a drama or 2 ro come but more + than - for me.
Spot on here mate

If we're unable to demonstrate any progress in the next year and a half then I fully expect him to leave for a bumper amount of cash

If we can, I'd like to think we keep hold of him and keep going. The point is, under Moshiri he's have gone by now and we'd be in trouble. Business continuity is important

Why can't we turn into a club playing European football in a few years time? Who wouldn't want to be starting every game for a club in that position?

Actually don't answer that

I should say that it totally agree with you here

Timing is key, and now is not the time

Good to see the club identify that as a priority, wouldn't have happend last year!

Moyes putting pressure on the ‘transfer committee’ by stating a number?
Because that's how it works. He's sitting there with his hands tied while a committee of bureaucrats holds him hostage. They tell him to play it cool and tell the embassy that he's being treated well, hand him the phone and release the gag. He slips in a number, and now the pressure is on! If they don't come up with nine players, we'll know something is wrong and send in the commandos.

Our mindset as a team should be where we want to be, not where we're at. We can't sit at the same mindset of just sneaking into Europe

I assume that's what the Everton Project is anyway - with a good transfer kitty and a few years...

Mate, we are a stepping stone for the majority of footballers. We are not the peak of the mountain for anybody.

If you think this is just us I'll direct you to look at the Geordies who have Saudi millions and CL footy and are watching their striker flash ankles at the RS.

We are about 2-3 tiers below even that.

fofana is probably not good enough for a top champions league club and will use us a stepping stone if he does join
Is what football is now even at the top teams, at us players will want to leave and that is fine. Is up to us to hopefully be like a brighton ect who can be in a situation so the club can get top money. Then go again for the next player, is why even if bringing in barry or fofana should be looking for the next player now. Has been a problem at us have held on to players, we will have to accept this will happen is not a bad thing.
