That's true, but that's not what got us into the worst of our mess: Moshiri took the opposite approach, trying to spend like clubs with far greater budgets, buying players and appointing managers because of their glamour rather than their records or fit for the club. Spunked half a billion on dross and almost bankrupted us. A bit of operating within our means is advisable at this point. It's not compromise or underselling ourselves; it's the real world.

I think we're all against feast or famine in terms of spending. But we have some way to go this summer to striking a balance on that score.

We need to see a lot more spent on players all over the pitch.

Despite new owners, it still seems the Everton hierarchy are surprised that buying better players costs more money. In another surprising twist, teams who currently own better players aren’t desperate to get rid of them. This will take some time for our new, elite negotiating team to get their collective heads around.

I think that The chances are high that we are going into that Leeds game with a lot of kids on the bench. I really don’t think Moyes wanted or expected to get to a week shy of August with just two new players (Alcaraz was already here).

Can’t argue with any of that. Feels like the big teams eat first these days and the rest of us then commence a fight for the scraps. Not an enormous issue in itself but when the dominoes don’t start falling until late July I think the start of the season will be chaotic for a number of teams.

I still think we’ll ultimately end the window fine but I realise that’s not the whole point.
