The Oldies Thread

Do any of you use a hearing aids ? I’ve reached 50 and due to constant Iron Maiden and Faith No More batterings to my old ear holes , my hearing is going . While it was amusing to dismiss my wife’s nagging , it’s affecting my work life now .
They are so expensive now too . My local NHS won’t provide any the tight sods .

Yeah I've had them for about ten years now.
I assume you've been refered to the Audiology Dept by your GP? If not ask for a referral. 🤷‍♂️

PS It's best to turn them off when with the Mrs.;)
Forgot to quote your post.

Why won't the NHS provide them? My friend went for an hearing test recently and came out with hearing aids

….our Daughter is an ENT Consultant surgeon, no doubt I’ll see her later so I’ll ask her advice for you.

I don’t know , the receptionist wouldn’t even book me in for an appointment. I really should have pushed .

Thanks Eggs . I’m just so confused about the prices of these things . If you go straight to a manufacturer they are cheaper than if you book a test in a clinic just looking at their inventories.
a lot cheaper .
My tinnitus is getting worse in my old age and my wife is going to batter me when I cup my ear one more time .

Your GP has no right to say "go private" If you need hearing aids you ARE entitled to them on the NHS.
The prices of some HAs are absolutely ridiculous and quite honestly NHS issue are as good as any.

….seems like the basic ones are free for everybody on NHS but if you want a fancier model you’d have to pay. GP referral to an audiologist.
