Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Buying a Championship player for £20m is a big risk. English players are so overpriced.
It is definitely a risk but gone are the days where you get anything from the championship cheap nowadays. On the flip, if he turns out to be the next Wharton (which we have to be aiming for) then he’d be worth the gamble all day long. We’re in no position to buy certs sadly.. and even that lot have spent £80m on Ekitike who is still relatively untested.

Of course they do, why wouldnt they? 4 of them were in our squad last season, one is a very promising youngster who looks destined for good things and appears to have the physical attributes for 1st team football and Travers is our back-up keeper. We had 2 on the bench at times last year.
You have to ask yourself how much will they contribute on the pitch.

Had this convo the other day, funnily enough, and I kind of disagree. I was specifically talking about Delap, and the fact that each player will back themselves to be THE one that breaks the striker curse, or gets a regular spot despite a massive squad, etc. It's the kind of arrogance you want in a player but very often it ultimately fails them.

That's why I think Luiz will come to us in the hopes of springboarding to a bigger club. It's not because he wants to be an Everton hero and see out his career here, he just knows a club in our position will pay him handsomely, he'll walk into the team and he's capable of producing the form that will get him another, probably final big move in a year or two.

This is why I always roll my eyes a bit when I hear "if they don't want to play for the club, don't sign them", or some version of NSNO-based cryarsing. Best we can hope to be right now is a stepping stone, and do it well like Porto, Atletico, Brighton etc have done. I'm alright with it. Bring your apathetic brilliance here, Dougy baby.

Love this. In Several words - we need to be less precious.
