Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Let’s be honest, if I take the 18 players currently in the squad mentioned in this thread as correct then we have 7 places to fill in the PL squad.

1. Right winger - priority
2. Centre Mid/creative or box to box style to drive us forward
3. Right back (long term starter ideally)
4. left back cover or long term starter
5. Backup right winger
6. Third striker (assuming Chermiti leaves)
7. Long term Gana replacement maybe?

If you spend all your money on permanents for numbers 1, 2 and possibly 3 and spread them across a few years that could be 3 players at £30m each with payments this year at £30m overall.

Then maybe find a loan (we had 4 loans last year I believe) or frees (plenty of them still not signed up for clubs) for the rest then it’s entirely possible even though we haven’t got Chelsea or Liverpool money to just spend half a billion in the blink of an eye.

We have enough players for the games before the window closes. Squad size is more of an issue for later in the season. We shouldn’t rush through signings which will be at the club for 3/4 years for the sake of 3 games. That would be madness. 100% of our focus should be getting in the best players we can for the best price. If that happens at 1 minute to midnight before the window slams shut then so be it.
I dont think we have the squad for any competitive match right now. Even 1 or 2 injuries and we are in deep trouble.

We have new owners and if they couldn't shift the dial for us they should've just stuck with Roma.

I agree - none of the impediments and restrictions would have been unknown to them at the end of May.

I do expect business to be done out of necessity. It's a critical time for Kinnear most particularly.

Wages, profile, contract length, age, pathway between the different tiers, size of the squad, data quality, position priorities, training schedule, who has responsibility for each part of footballing activities for the first team...

Seems to be just a lot of words.. how do you change the age/profile/size of the squad at this point?

I don’t understand why you take out tyrer though? We had 3 keepers in the numbers last season. He is 23 and clearly part of the squad. It’s not like he is a 16 year old that’s just been promoted due to injuries.

Also, if we are at 18, why would we need 8 for a squad of 25?

Personally think we need 5 more. 4 if we’ve decided to keep Patterson. (More if we loan out Harrison/Chermiti)

I think if we were to bring 4/5 players in from now (3 perm, 2 loan) this would be my personal priority: -

1. RW on a perm (Kubo would be ideal - but either way it absolutely needs to be a player who's operated predominantly on the right throughout their career.)

2. LB on a perm (Myko really needs some competition there at the very least, on top of us being extremely light there in general.)

3. CM on a perm (Could do with someone with a profile more akin to a 'playmaker'. Gana isn't going to last forever and Garner likely won't hit the heights required to be his long term successor. Iroegbunam & Armstrong still young.)

4. RB on loan (Less of a pressing issue than LB if I'm being honest. A fullback on loan who can cover on both sides to support/rotate with our current fullbacks would be ideal for this upcoming season. Coleman can't be trusted to stay fit.)

5. CAM on loan (I think with a perm RW sorted we'd start looking okay in the wide forward areas, so someone who can come in and rotate right across the front three/behind the striker for the season would balance us out nicely.)
