Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Don’t understand why so many want to dismantle half of a defence that was champs league level.

You’ll be the first people complaining when we start leaking goals after bringing in more attacking fullbacks who aren’t at the level needed to defend to the same standard. If we get a great right winger and CM\AM I think we’ll shoot up the table.

We do need more options for fullback but I think dropping Myko and O’Brien is a big mistake.

Champions league level? Mate … we had 11 players defending for half the season …

Only Jarrod and Pickford can even be considered good enough for a CL team

Exactly. Whilst loans do come with an expense, it allows us to concentrate our major funds on the priority positions for the squad, with loans adding depth.

In an ideal world, we'd be in a position where we either didn't need loans at all, or they were used to reduce our exposure to risk - loan with option to buy.

But our squad nor our finances are in that position yet, so like numerous other clubs in this league it's a valid tool to develop the squad in the short-term.

On a different note, I'm a little bit dismayed by some of the comments, with people going as far as saying this window has been 'shambolic' et al.

A little dose of reality wouldn't go amiss: we're still over a month away until the window closes; many new backroom staff; finances still aren't rosy.

Yes, the squad depth isn't great at the moment, but we've jettisoned players that most fans wanted gone, and the club WILL bring in more players.

We just need some patience because this is neither an easy task nor a quick fix; when the window closes, we will be in a stronger position than now.

Bar the top teams with their apparent bottomless purses or newly promoted, most PL teams have made an equal number of signings or less than ourselves.
Shambolic is clearly far too strong a word. But I think the issue is that we need more players than all these other clubs because we had a small squad to start with and then lost around 10 first team players. If we want to move forward this year, then a decent start is really important to get away from any possible relegation trouble. And we are going to need significant improvements to the squad - both depth and quality - if we are going to have a good season. You can't get through a season with only around 13 or 14 senior outfield players

I don't think it's unfair to say we are behind where we should be at this point of July. And I reckon the club expected to be further ahead too. They need to be judged before the Leeds game because that's when it counts, not the start of September.

Obviously our recruitment so far has been disappointing, but the spending by city, utd, liverpool, arsenal and chelsea has been absolutely ridiculous ...I don't think I've seen a pre season where those clubs seem SO far ahead of everyone in spending, feels a step too far
Chelsea already over 200 million and I doubt they're finished with their recruitment

Exactly Tim. The deadline for the first named 20 is the Friday before Leeds. That is our first test and where we should measure the quality of the team. We can judge depth of the 25/26 squad at window close but relying on late transfers for the first 11 or even 20 is significantly sub-optimal.

Nope. 6, with a maximum 2 domestic.

FIFA rules allow up to 6.
PL rules state only 2 domestic.
So we could have 4 international and 2 domestic (or 1 and 5).

4 loan limit is only applicable between domestic clubs across 1 season.
Marius I hope you have this saved somewhere to copy and paste as will be needed at least 20 times between now and end of the window!

Correct.
And these players aren’t free.
We spend a large loan fee (often a low transfer fee sized amount of money) and pay their wages and get nothing back from it.
They also have to be good enough that they stand a chance of getting a game now and again, or else why bother coming? This vastly reduces the viable options of players we’d want, and then we’d still have to convince them to come here.
Hmmmm not sure about that logic, loan fee depends on perceived quality of the player. May be quite low if loaning team want the wages of their books, gnerally higher if part of a potential sale i.e. with option or obligation.
Nothing back from it? Only if they are bad loans and even those may be worthwhile if you look at them as "try before you buy" scenarios. If they work out it could mean Europe and a saving on transfer fees and low risk purchases in the next transfer window. I wouldn't call that nothing 🤔

It is different when they are both on your books. Good agents try not to put their own clients in head on competition, particularly when both are young and promising. It is simple common sense as they are always thinking one move ahead.
I think the use of the word good is probably the key .

They might be fantastic I’ve no idea , although I’d be cynical in my view.
