Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

All that is true.

However, loan signings do give us a chance to get a player into the club at relatively little cost compared to a transfer fee.
It gives us the opportunity to play them if they are good enough and maybe then sign them for real money as we have done with Alcaraz.

Because they were only on loan we have been able to send back Lindstrom, Harrison and others at no further cost.
Even Mangala who got injured playing for us was sent back after the loan agreement expired.
Exactly. Whilst loans do come with an expense, it allows us to concentrate our major funds on the priority positions for the squad, with loans adding depth.

In an ideal world, we'd be in a position where we either didn't need loans at all, or they were used to reduce our exposure to risk - loan with option to buy.

But our squad nor our finances are in that position yet, so like numerous other clubs in this league it's a valid tool to develop the squad in the short-term.

On a different note, I'm a little bit dismayed by some of the comments, with people going as far as saying this window has been 'shambolic' et al.

A little dose of reality wouldn't go amiss: we're still over a month away until the window closes; many new backroom staff; finances still aren't rosy.

Yes, the squad depth isn't great at the moment, but we've jettisoned players that most fans wanted gone, and the club WILL bring in more players.

We just need some patience because this is neither an easy task nor a quick fix; when the window closes, we will be in a stronger position than now.

Bar the top teams with their apparent bottomless purses or newly promoted, most PL teams have made an equal number of signings or less than ourselves.

Obviously our recruitment so far has been disappointing, but the spending by city, utd, liverpool, arsenal and chelsea has been absolutely ridiculous ...I don't think I've seen a pre season where those clubs seem SO far ahead of everyone in spending, feels a step too far
Agreed. Clearly we can't compete with that level of spending and it will take time and gradual improvement if we are ever going to get back to the top table.
Those teams aren't our true competition, instead think Palace , Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton , Fulham , Wolves and Wham.
Sad but true.

Biereth has the same agent as Barry. There is no way he is putting them on the same team fighting it out for one position.
I’ve no idea if the links are genuine , I suspect not Pay . However the money they’re asking and I’d be surprised if competing for a starting place would factor into the representatives thoughts .

It is different when they are both on your books. Good agents try not to put their own clients in head on competition, particularly when both are young and promising. It is simple common sense as they are always thinking one move ahead.

If you think the women’s market is no easier than the men’s market then I don’t know what to tell you.

Women’s market would be a nightmare

they can’t even decide what they want to have for dinner in my experience

How much you want luv?

Well I scored 6 goals in a game once… so I deserve equal pay with Haaland so 800k?

I do not blame clubs at all. Reinforces the point that if he doesn't budge he isn't playing for anybody anytime soon. The longer he leaves it, even with reduced demands there'd be fewer takers without match fitness and just like that he could go at least half a season without a club.

Fine line for players just as much as looking at us and how we may be going about our own business.
He's probably got a Saudi contract tucked in his back pocket, if all else fails.

Yes but just because you spend 100 or 75 million on a player doesn't mean they going to be successful…going to be a few very expensive bombs in the list of players
