Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Ah I get it. Transfers are dead hard but everyone else has managed to assemble an actual first team squad.
I mean Brentford have been completely decimated and look to be in trouble. Newcastle & Forest looking pretty light considering they have Europe this season and the likes of Brighton, Palace & Wolves havent exactly lit the transfer window up yet either..

We aren't the only ones who've been 'slow' in this window so far.

There are two strands to 'fitness'. The fitness overall and adjustment to the new club and tactics.

We had a manager last year that was prioritising fitness and gaffers day over tactics. By mid Dec the team looked knackered and looked like they had not worked on any tactics.

Most professional players will maintain a high level of fitness, the tactics and squad dynamics are the reason to get players in early. But even that depends on if it's a tactical adjustment or not and if they are being bought to play in a familiar role.

To summarise, there isn't a one size fits all, approach to dealing with people.
But given that signing a player is a 4/5 year financial commitment and we don't have unlimited money to make mistakes prioritising getting the right players in (and being patient to do so if necessary) is surely preferable to getting the wrong players in early. Everyone would want players signed before the squad report back for preseason. But the transfer market doesn't work that way.

I genuinely can't understand why we (or more clubs) aren't massively investing in their youth structure. Surely the answer is right there?

Get steady in the league, invest into a huge youth structure and begin producing talent:

Talent comes through and becomes part of the squad
Talent comes through and becomes a star and is sold to the usual suspects for big money.
Talent is sold off as prospects/potential, making us money.

Yes, it requires patience and money, but surely long term it's ideal?

Transfers are getting more and more absurd and costly.
In very typical Everton fashion the club were quite serious about this when we first came into the Moshiri/Usmanov money, with bringing in quality into the academy from other teams, but ended up getting a half a mil fine and a 2 year transfer ban from signing any youngsters

Yes, that too.

The whole league have set up an academy and are bringing through youth both to play and sell for big money?
This feels like a trick question?

But yes, every team in the world invests in their youth academies, Everton for example are in the same catchment area as Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd, not that catchment area matters in the global game.
