Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Yeah this is why I don't understand the patience argument. Most of our business in recent years has been at the last minute. And I think we would all be in agreement that most of our recruitment in the last 5 or 6 seasons has been pretty poor - some of it has been dreadful nevermind poor.

The club need to start making progress and finalising deals. Otherwise this is no different to previous seasons and we will not be ready for the new season yet again. I keep saying it, but we haven't won an August league game in 4 years. That's all the evidence we need to show our strategy of waiting till the end of August is a very bad strategy and doesn't work.
We could have already bought 6 players by now if we really wanted to but they wouldn't be the players we want or need. It is what is. Unless you think the club are deliberately leaving all signings to the last minute? I would always prefer that we go for our primary targets provided we have a realistic chance of getting them. I seem to remember the season we finished 5th under Martinez we got Lukaku, Barry and McCarthy well after the season had started and that didn't turn out to badly. The key is to sign the right players. If they miss the first couple of games then so be it. We have to think long term.

Yeah, I just read a few pages ago that surely we could have signed our 2nd and 3rd choices by now. There are six more weeks in the window, we shouldn't be settling, or overpaying, at this point. There's obviously a case to be made that we should never do those two things, but we do need players.

Surely our scouting yields more than one player for every position we want fill ?
Very poor system if this not the case .

Yes but its not like buying a new car. Every player is unique. Think of it more like buying a house. Do people bid for 6 houses all at the same time? No. They try to buy the one they like the most and if that falls through they try to buy the next one they like the most at the time. And so on and so on until they find the right.

Staying away/losing out on Luiz so we don’t pay Joorabchin? Fine with that
I also can't shake the nagging feeling that he's a bit overpriced - first rumours were that Juventus were willing to lose a decent chunk on him because they'd heavily overpaid, but now multiple Prem clubs want him they've understandably jacked up the price and now it feels too much

Don't get this at all.

If "we could have bought 6 players by now ".
Yet you say that they "wouldnt be the players we want or need"

Then why would we have them 6 players on any list?
Doesn't make sense.
