Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Bernard costs virtually nothing and Gomes was a loan. Mina was actually a decent signing but never fit.

Mina was great but he was still a £30m signing that left for free. Bernard was our highest earner while contributing little on the pitch and we struggled for 2 years to get rid of, so I don’t think you can say those signings didn’t contribute to our financial problems.

If he is our number 1 target, unless sociedad are telling us a firm no, then he is still in play.

We could go and get someone not deemed as good sooner, but surely you work on your number 1 target until you know it’s not possible.

If the club is being better run, as I believe it is, we should have things in place/underway for our number 2 target but until the first target is not in play anymore, we should be waiting.

It’s why I’m not stressed about the signings. We will get people in, but I’d rather get the top targets then just bringing in 4th or 5th targets just because they could be in right this second.
Could be all agreed already but had to stay with them for their Asian tour, might explain the limited minutes he got 🤞

I will be really sad when Myko gets pushed to the bench. It will mean we have improved the starting lineup, but he is good, if not excellent at what he does. He has consistently made some the leagues best wingers look frustrated (Salah, Saka, Kulesevski etc). He boots Saka early every time he plays him, it worked against England and he did it every time after. Caught a few times being weak at the back post undoubtedly.

He’s made innumerable certain goal saving blocks or clearances when Pickford beaten. Played games in injured and needing an op because we had no cover. Played on til half time when very very injured so as not to disrupt things until the break.

He has spoken about how he can’t sleep at all when we are in bother. Could argue that’s hardly an elite
mindset, but it at least shows how much responsibility he takes.

His crosses, when he has space sometimes have a really good pacey, head-height trajectory. He can do it.

His mindset is one of being terrified of doing something bad, rather than desire to do something good. It’s very effective defensively but restricting creatively. It’s also an exhausting and stress-inducing mindset.

I think he’s brilliant. Exactly what we needed in some recent situations. If he is replaced, then c’est la vie; it means he hasn’t been able to adapt his game and mindset and we have a more modern player. Earned every single penny we’ve paid him.

Fab. The one thing he can't be accused of is not being vfm for sure . Improvements needed beyond next season? Absolutely yes if we are to progress and play a more expansive game. He came in prior to the FSW getting the push but more + than - overall.

I've thanked him more than shook my fist at him over the past 3.5 years, especially for some of the reasons you highlight.

Cover for him would be great for him this year as plenty have suggested.

This season maybe see if we can get a littld bit more out of him over the season in terms of improvement. If not his book value is about 4m start of next season. Thank him for his service in Summer 26 and get him a good club clearing at least double figures £s in fee. As a prem defender with 4 years top flight experience, there will be plenty of takers on that middle to lower tier of clubs in UK and Europe.
