Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I often feel a bit

I often feel a bit sorry for Myko. He's been unfortunate in following Baines whose a premier league GOAT at left back and Digne who that FSW should never have been allowed to flog.

He very rarely gets done defensively and he's not terrible going forward he's just not at their level.

In and ideal world him as back up to a real top tier left back would be no bad thing.
I will be really sad when Myko gets pushed to the bench. It will mean we have improved the starting lineup, but he is good, if not excellent at what he does. He has consistently made some the leagues best wingers look frustrated (Salah, Saka, Kulesevski etc). He boots Saka early every time he plays him, it worked against England and he did it every time after. Caught a few times being weak at the back post undoubtedly.

He’s made innumerable certain goal saving blocks or clearances when Pickford beaten. Played games in injured and needing an op because we had no cover. Played on til half time when very very injured so as not to disrupt things until the break.

He has spoken about how he can’t sleep at all when we are in bother. Could argue that’s hardly an elite
mindset, but it at least shows how much responsibility he takes.

His crosses, when he has space sometimes have a really good pacey, head-height trajectory. He can do it.

His mindset is one of being terrified of doing something bad, rather than desire to do something good. It’s very effective defensively but restricting creatively. It’s also an exhausting and stress-inducing mindset.

I think he’s brilliant. Exactly what we needed in some recent situations. If he is replaced, then c’est la vie; it means he hasn’t been able to adapt his game and mindset and we have a more modern player. Earned every single penny we’ve paid him.

Guys don't pin your hopes on Kubo rocking up.
If he is our number 1 target, unless sociedad are telling us a firm no, then he is still in play.

We could go and get someone not deemed as good sooner, but surely you work on your number 1 target until you know it’s not possible.

If the club is being better run, as I believe it is, we should have things in place/underway for our number 2 target but until the first target is not in play anymore, we should be waiting.

It’s why I’m not stressed about the signings. We will get people in, but I’d rather get the top targets then just bringing in 4th or 5th targets just because they could be in right this second.

Idrissa has been great mates , but I think it’s an area we Are light need to strengthen mate, to my mind there are three questions,

1. How do the midfield 2 cope without Doucoure?

2. Can we improve on Garner?

3. Is it fair to ask Idrissa to play 40 games at 35?

My answers would be:

1. Id be concerned
2. Yes
3. No.

We are a couple of bodies down in the engine room on last season, in Mangala and the Duke, if Idrissa gets injured we are in trouble, as it is we are looking shaky when the Afcon comes around in Jan, particularly if we’re relying on Idrissa every game.

There is a strong case fur Soucek type really……

Yes, but no to a Soucek 'type'.

I think this Aznou link this morning from a decent source confirms that we are going about our business without letting the whole world know our recruitment strategy.

Nice thought, IF we actually sign him.

Otherwise we're not actually "going about our business". We're window shopping and dithering.

Sounds and looks ace.

Aznou would easily replace Mykolenko in the starting XI IMO

Not a chance in the short term.

Even if he's very good from day1 Moyes would have him benched until Dec earliest.

I trust Paddy would only report the Aznou link if the deal is imminent. The last such story he broke was Barry.

I suspect also that once Wesley signs for Roma we may go for one of their RBs ( Zelik most probably) on loan…

Reckon? I think him saying "hold an interest" or suchlike is simply filling column inches.

The only way to know is if he signs.

Weve gone from Truffert to Aznou.

This would make sense. But lets see who we end up with.
