Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Stones, Lescott, Cahill, Bowen.. Moyes has made some excellent signings from the Championship.
Many moons ago. When good Championship teams could compete with Premier League teams.

No mention of Flynn Donwes? Moyes' latest prestige signing from Championship. Awful for West Ham. Off to Southampton where he did well in Championship before he was poor again in Premier League.

That said, Southampton rated him higher than Alcaraz... maybe Downes should get a third attempt in Premier League?

Sources don’t exactly seem top tier but I need rumours no matter how obscure…

18 year old centre back, Veljko Milosavljević. The article says Celtic had a bid of 6m euro turned down but now Everton have made a satisfactory offer that is being considered.

Sounds made up but what do I know…
If you can't trust Sportskacentrala.com, who can you trust?

Knowing how big difference it is between Premier League and Championship these days, I find it baffling how many in here that mean Everton should pay silly money for average Championship players.

The best teams with the best players in Championship have no chance to avoid relegation from Premier League. We see teams come up, spend serious money and still get relegated.

If we buy Championship players we'll end up as a Championship team within a few years.
What were we thinking when we bought Branthwaite mate ?
There was obviously no chance of him being worth a chance as he wasn't even good enough for the Championship , never mind the Premiership.
I think your logic may be somewhat flawed.
I don't advocate paying silly money for lower division players , but there are still gems to be found.
Simply buying players only from top division clubs is financially unsustainable , and the quickest way to the poor house mate.

There are still players in the championship and below who can make the step up if developed properly so it is not a problem to bring in one or two targeted players we believe in providing we also have cover to help us and them through the inevitable learning curve and dips in form. Obviously we cannot safely assume they will be instantly transformative and nor can we construct a whole squad from them.
Agreed. The best players in Championship can make the step up. Question is whether we are a club that can develop players properly.

Just as an example, look at WBA and Tom Fellows last season. They had Carlos Corberan as manager. Young Spanish manager who previously have worked with Bielsa. The football wasn't always exciting, as he as a manager was obsessed with tactics and how to control matches. Lots of possession. Everything the players did at training had tactical elements. The players loved playing for him. They felt they learnt something new every day. Tom Fellows was one of several players that benefitted from playing for Corberan and had the best spells of his career.

At Christmas Corberan left WBA and was hired as the new Valencia coach.

Tony Mowbrey replaced Corberan. A well respected English manager everyone speaks highly of. Great guy. Popular among players. But it was a massive change from Coreberan being obsessed with tactics and Mowbrey's leadership that mostly was an arm around the shoulder while he asked players to go out and express themselves. Try to make something happen. The team seem lost. Players seemed lost.

Tom Fellows second half of the season was a different player from the one that started the season.

I think Moyes is a lot closer to Mowbrey than Corberan when it comes to tactics and leadership. We know that Moyes' teams plays very different from the Corberan team Fellows looked great for.

@Littlesue looks like we've got another Baggies expert. Any enlightenment?
