Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

TFG could sanction a 150-200m spend pretty easily as long as that came without a ridiculous spiralling of wages too.

It's why I'm doubtful of Grealish, Gallagher and to a degree Luiz as all three would be on 100k plus I'm guessing minimum of they arrived.

Can likely get the likes of Kubo, Mcatee, Elliot, Doake etc on around 40-60k tops. On a loan I maybe can see us adding a big wage earner but not on a permanent deal currently

Wages rather than fees is definitely it, as we aren't busting our 130kish per week limit for any player this window, as both Jarrad and Tarky for two would be knocking on DM'S door almost immediately.

Except the fact Gueye isn't and never will be a good sitting player. And that the player you want is utter horseturd
Opinions and that. But the potential productivity upgrade from JWP is hard to argue with. Sometimes you have to go with someone who will be a horses for courses signing.

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic were an absolute nightmare for anyone due to their sheer physicality. That’s what we should be pursuing - making the most of our advantages.

With all this disparaging talk of signing the Longstaffs and Soucek’s of the world, I do wonder how this forum would of reacted, if it had been around in the 80’s , to the news that Everton were signing 2 washed up, injury plagued, journeymen called Andy Gray and Peter Reid.

Something about not judging books by covers I think.

We can only hope that the next Gray & Reid are just around this transfer corner
Another week and people will be begging for Soucek and McGinn.

Never mid waiting for Luiz to make up his mind just go and buy Hackney from Middlesbrough, a very good footballer a wonderful passer of the ball. scores goals and would be a lot cheaper, leaving more money to buy other players.

Obviously different levels but he is a talent for sure

Money we spent was never the issue mate though really.

It was the wages we offered which like United are finding can massively wreck your club for years

This is the key really. I don't think it's fully grasped/understood by football people, although some are starting to get it (I think Thelwell actually did).

The PL is the final stop for most players (outside of like 10-12 clubs in Europe). If the player doesn't work out, you can't move them on.

It's why it's quite hard to turn a football team around quickly.

We've noticeably the past few seasons shed every player at the club on over 100k per week.

This season both DCL and Doucoure joined that group. The next bracket down those on 70-80 we either got rid off in Godfrey etc or have improved renegotiated by letting their contracts run out - I'm guessing Keane is nowhere near 80k now and more like 45k. Think Gueye will have taken a pay cut too.

Only Jarrod who I exist is now 100k plus and Jordan whose on around 125 and gonna extend break that rule, but both are stand out players whose market value backs up their wages.

I fully expect no new contract for Tarkowski this season either - rumours he's on around 100k and we appear to be willing to let it run out which actually is a smart choice.

I'd be shocked if any I coming player this season is on more than 75-80k mate

100%. Said it before in this thread, I think in 3 years time Hackney would be looked back at as a much much better signing. Fits next to Gana stylistically perfectly for this year too

Unlwss you buy players that are either seeing the club as the first step to the bigger contract elsewhere OR are hungry to play. I know we ain't got many but I currently dont see any player at our club wed struggle badly to move on due to wages - and that's a relief.
