Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

If it turns out that Barry can bag then I'm not sure we are far off a good first XI. RB still needs sorting but Patterson showed how a marauding RB can work with McNeil cutting in. The rest of the defence was solid last season. Attacking MF of N'Diaye - Alcaraz - McNeil is going to be exciting. Defensive MF we have options with Garner, Gana, Iroegbunam.
However - there will be injuries and we still need a winger and a MF player of real quality. And/or a FB who can both attack and defend.

Based on Everton rumours you’d think there are only about 5 players we can sign.

The actual pool of eligible players will be in the hundreds if not more.

We should follow Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Forest, Wolves etc. and widen our net beyond Manchester City’s reserves.
The opportunities are in the leagues in South America or Asia if you can spot talent. Insisting on Premier League experience increases the cost and usually means they didn't deliver in the past.

No one is paying 40m for a player who is going into the final year of a contract and is relatively unproven.

Why is the final year of his contract relevant though? He’s not going to want to sit on his bum all season waiting for a move in a years time.

As long as several clubs want him, City will have a high price.

I don't think they will either. I can see a deal of 25 up front loaded with 10m in add-ons etc though.

The contract length only matters if the clubs think he'll wait it out and leave on a free which he clearly won't do.

We got over 40 for Gordon, Chelsea paid 42 for an unproven Palmer, we paid close to 30 for Kean.

Prices are silly especially for young players who are highly touted.

City will only have a high price if someone is willing to pay it. And I don't think anyone will be willing to pay 40m, so their options will be to keep asking for 40m and risk losing him for free, or to reduce the price.

As a few have said, I can see them getting ~£25m upfront and the rest in add-ons. City typically find a way to let their young talent leave if they want first team footy.

We'll be back in for Ashley Young if he hasn't found a club in the next 4 weeks. He played around 30 odd games last season didn't he?

Right back was a priority last season and even more so now that the player who played there loads isn't here anymore.
Only started 4 games under Moyes, including Moyes first game which was 3 days after he took over and the last 3 games when there was nothing to play for.......
