Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Better players than the likes of Harrison or Lindstrom? Of course we are. Be hard not to.

My point is that at the moment we are going after better players than the better players. But there will still be a long list of better players available to fall back on and if the time comes that we just have to take a few meh options to pad things out they will STILL be better than the departed players they replace.

So far were not after better than those Thelwell lined up at Full back in Jan.

Not stupid at all...

We all know the longer this drags out, the less likely it is we are going to make any big signings.

In recent years we have always had surprising links which we have always accepted and would love to have gotten, but nowhere near getting them realistically. These were always seen as our A list.... again unrealistic but to appease fans.

As windows dwindle on regardless of the stupid excuses about agents, or clubs getting in replacements blah blah blah, we will end up shopping in the bargain bin as usual and say we tried.

Nothing is going to happen in July and expect any of our business will be done in the 2nd half of August and none of these will generally be classed as big signings and in fact will be squad players, or standard we have signed in the last 3-4 years (argue longer under the previous regime)...

We all know how this goes, and if you want to make big / statement signings these need to be done straight away.

So no, it is not a stupid question as we have all seen this before.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have my head in the sand wishful that we are going to pull 2-3 1st teamers in in the coming weeks... but this is Everton.
I don't agree to be honest.

I think we could easily have filled our squad by now with a host of players. But, would they be the players to move the team forward ?
We know we can't afford to offer transfer fees that clubs simply cannot refuse as we have seen Chelsea , RS, Utd, Arsenal and other do.
But there are lots of really good young players coming through but their clubs don't want to lose their best players. We have to be patient, accept purchases will come more slowly than we would like but hope we get players that will improve us and improve themselves as well.

Even though nobody has a clue who we actually would like to sign as far as I can see.

I will absolutely laugh my ass off if we sign Harrison.

So new signings don't need to gel in? Just throw them into the first team right away and that's fine?
Depends on the player but yeah. Chelsea just grabbed Joao Pedro off a beach somewhere to win that CWC. Good players tend to not need time, if we're signing bad players then that's a separate issue where we've got bigger issues than 'being slow'

People just making out like waiting til late in the window will definitely mean we end up with better quality signings than if we moved earlier is absolutely wild. Some of you have evidently never Evertoned before.

Doesn't mean anything but I'll caveat this with these are new owners, I'll judge them on a first summer not first three weeks of the window (psr reset) only evidence we have us what they do and looking at first summer with Roma as a guide, where they certainly spent a lot - especially so for the Italian league.

One thing I will add is if we are gonna spend big which I believe we will do, it's in our interest to not overpay early in order to get a body in as that just sets the bar high for every further negotiation.

Both negotiating down the Alcaraz deal and doing the same for Barry rather than just paying the buyout - long term will ensure clubs don't take the piss in negotiations.

I can see us doing similar with both Luiz and Mcatee in fact - works as long as we have some the clubs intentions well enough to the player - which we seem to have done with Barry

Yup noticeable that the sky teams have basically not sold anyone really yet either.

City, the rs, villa, Chelsea will all be moving on players this summer, Mcatee, Grealish, Doak, Elliot, Ramsey, crap load from Chelsea no doubt. Likely some more from both city and the rs also.

Under 21s a s the world club thing also means anyone involved is basically still on a beach in flip flops so not exactly rushing to sign with new clubs etc.

Think you'll see the next week or so a lot of moves starting around that pack of teams from 6/7-17th.

If we had go e and brought in 6-7 by now I'd be more worried as can almost guarantee it'd be more a result of panic buying a d we'd have been overpaying for mediocre players

I just don’t think the squad numbers will be as big as people think. Moyes is a fan of players covering positions and smaller squads gradually integrating players.

We may not get a right back for example. Moyes might go with JOB and Patterson/Coleman as backup.

We may not get a number 10 considering Ndiaye and McNeil could probably cover there when Alcaraz isn’t.

I think we’ll see perhaps two wide players, one that can perhaps cover all three positions. We will see a deep lying central midfielder. We’ll probably also see a left back that can perhaps cover multiple positions.

That might only mean 4 players. I’d rather they were the ones Moyes wanted than to rush them.

I think it's fair to expect much better recruitment strategies after we have overhauled the entire recruitment team and hired a lot of experienced staff. So far, it's been similar to the last 4 or 5 years and that's a concern.

The other concern is that it may not be ideal for their to have been so much change behind the scenes in recruitment during a summer where we genuinely need 8 or 9 signings.

We’re dealing in pretty weak transfer rumours here, and that’s not really what I’m on about. The specific discussion I was referring to is whether we are / will be stronger than last year and I think it’s almost impossible to not be stronger, probably by a good margin.
