apart from being born

i was in the liverpool echo on my first birthday - sitting nxt to my card

i was one of the early prem babys at that time ( was touch and go )

Whilst spending the day sorting and spatially realigning my desk stationary, I noticed that all the items in my ruler section proudly declare them as “shatterproof” or “shatter resistant”.

Was shattering a major problem with rulers throughout history before advanced plastics were invented? Should I be wary of my metal rulers suddenly fragmenting without any warning?
