Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I'd find it hard to accept that we couldn't find players who would both improve us, and want to play for us, too. They might not be your first choices, but wouldn't be naive to be going into this thinking otherwise?

They can't wait until the final week of August for this realisation to hit home. If we're being brushed off by the likes of Luiz and McAtee, then it's time - now - to actively pursue alternatives. That's just basic planning and organisation, surely.
Agree 100%

If the plan is to wait and wait till the end of the window then that's no better than we've had in recent years and suggests there isn't really a plan at all.

Maybe we don’t have much cash. Probably end up with someone like Ndidi for £9m…
DM last transfer window - I will look in the championship the are always bargains there ...... too right Backburns midfield rolled us in the first half yesterday - we have no pace our full backs are rubbish & our keeper gets passed the ball more than any outfield players ? .....

And that's very likely the reason we've had probably only 1 good start to a league season since that time.

We haven't won an August league fixture since 2021.

That shows our strategy to recruitment and pre season has been a huge failure and needs huge improvement.

In 2013, we had only brought in Kone, Alcaraz, Robles and Deulofeu at this stage and I think there was a lot of fume around the first three. It did get better when we brought in Barry, Lukaku and McCarthy towards the end.

There's a fair few who have gone to other clubs I'd have really liked too.

Habib Diarra being one.

I think the £27mil + £3mil is (like Barry) an overpayment, theyve gone for potential.

Across Europe there are other 'Diarra' level players though who wouldnt cost that amount.

There are clubs that have to sell. There are also clubs that would sell at the right price.

Moyes has had Thelwell, Purdy and the scouting teams reports since January as well as his new colleagues and i'm sure his own contacts to delve into.

Jan - July = 6months.

All we know as true is that

1: He rejected multiple players in January

2: He rejected a CB who we had a deal with in favour of re-signing Keane

3: We went for Delap and then Barry.

4: We went for Tete.

As far as I'm aware nothing else has been confirmed by anyone ITK.

6months of work? Doesnt seem like it to me.

They will have had access to agents for months to ascertain who is and who isnt available.

We could have been putting in bids anywhere from Jan onwards with deals to go through on July 1st.

Imagine being a player on the way to the USA looking around the plane and thinking WOW he's some player. We're going to be really pushing up the table this season.

But instead, WOW we signed Travers and a player to compete with Beto.

Hardly inspiring.

Same can be said for our squad now vs squad Moyes took to top 8 form, but only if you wanted to be balanced

Well, no it quite clearly cannot.

But that need for players doesn’t mean signing crap like longstaff and Harrison just to hit evertonians arbitrary timeframes on what makes a window a success.

We can field a team tomorrow that Moyes had top 8 on form minus doucoure and Harrison. It’s not bed wetting time just yet

There you go...its NOT the same 11 nor the same squad.

You've qualified your own error here.

Merely an example of us prioritising value over timeframe

This makes no sense in the slightest.

Definitely an overpayment (and why Sunderland got him), but we'll be in that territory soon anyway out of necessity.

My worry is that when you've got such a small pool of players, its inevitable we'll pick up a couple of injuries. We always do.

We're not only missing quality which is abundantly obvious, we're seriously missing depth.

I'm sure there is lots of work going on behind the scenes but there's no way of dressing it up and saying 2 pre season games in and about to jet off to the States and we've brought someone in (Alcaraz) where the negotiations must have been pretty straight forward, a back up keeper and a striker who will need to be given time to settle (though I'm sure will instantly jump ahead of Chermiti).

I don't think its ideal at all watching the right back playing left back (2nd half against Accrington) and watching the slug Mcneil getting a lot of minutes right wing when he's pretty crap in his best position, let alone moving him there.

We needed upgrades on Mykolenko, Garner, right back and Mcneil for starters, so they become the squad fillers.

Lots of work to do and a big work load for the current players available.

Gana is our only midfielder that is top half quality, and he’s 36 and will need his minutes managing. We need to bring in 2 more midfielders minimum, along with the obvious 2 wingers and 2 full backs.

I think paying £27.5mil (plus add ons) was an overpayment for Barry.

I also think paying £4mil for Travers was an overpayment.

Its been made public knowledge that both Wesley and Truffert were moves by Thelwell in January...seemingly they were 2 that Moyes rejected.

If he is able to reject 2 attacking full backs of 21 and 23 years of age then he is directly accountable for the signing of superior players this window.

I'd have been thrilled (yes actually thrilled) and excited to watch them both playing for us. Very disappointing.
