Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I am happy with the window so far because realistically we have strengthen the team and we will see the benefits of a strong pre-season in the US.

Obviously I would have LOVED to have all the signings done and ready but that's not realistic.

Barry will instantly give the squad and fans a boost and seeing a more experienced and Armstrong in first team is also a huge boost.

Remember it's pre-season, these games don't count. It's a training exercise like a work course. The proof will be when the season starts.

If we could complete a signing or two before our US Tour that would be perfect but for now, keep a calm head and enjoy your summer Blues.

If the links to McAtee, Luiz, and Kubo are genuine then we must have the resources to pay for them too.

Then it's a question of do we make fill use of the resources available this summer?

It would be hard to see us not spending more after the famine we've had and what we need.

As much as none of us want dud players, an excuse that they couldn't find players good enough to spend on wouldn't wash at all.

The question for me all summer is are the 2nd or even 3rd choice options good enough because really they'll probably have to be. I just can't comprehend us sitting on a small warchest and still not addressing glaring issues in the squad.

For that reason, there should be plenty of further activity. Just who signs on the dotted line is another matter.

How have we strengthened the team?

You reckon they punted Thelwell so Moyes wouldn't have near full control on signings this summer?

Really?

Look at the West Ham setup where they kept hiring DOFs and yet he threw his toys out of the pram and spunked all their money. Look at their mess of a squad when he left.

Moyes will have full or near full control.

Why else will we have done such little business?

Nothing reported

You mean that mess of a squad that moyes won a European trophy with, got into Europe every season but his last where he got 9th and to the quarter finals of the Europa league (getting knocked out by leverkuson).

Moyes didnt leave west ham in a mess. West ham did what they always do and sacrifice success for the mythical "west ham style of play" and got a garbage manager in who turned them into relegation fodder.

A team is only as good as the manager. Hence why dyche had us looking like we were getting relegated. Then moyes with the same team got us 4 less points then the league champions.

You have to understand the fans’ concerns at the moment and IMO it’s justified concern. I accept you’ve got the glass half empty brigade, and then you have the glass half full side who are trying desperately to sprinkle a huge turd with glitter.

One look at that bench yesterday was enough to raise alarm bells. We have Tarkowski and Barry to come in to that as outfield players, but the fact is we’re a couple of injuries away from U21 players who are nowhere near good enough, starting Premiership matches.

We’re going to sign more players of course we are, but the longer we go without those players coming in with August a week and a half away, the more supporters are going to get understandably twitchy.

Tbh i think kubo is probably our third choice RW option.

As apparently we were after bakayoko and activated conceicao's release clause. So it feels like we are moving down the list of right wingers.

With the likes of mcatee and luiz, i think people need to understand that these players have plenty of options. So if they're the players we want were going to have to wait fot them to decide where their going (hopefully us).

Id rather wait to get the right player in then end up with another maupay just because their available right now.

His best asset is progressing with the ball mate.
In fairness, if it is then he hasn't done any of it for the last two years. Which would make it a pretty huge gamble to buy him to do that.

Progressive passes and carries are the relevant two metrics here:

And for this last one you want to look at the Pass OBV and Dribble & Carry OBV metrics:

I know this is extremely numbers-heavy but really it just means that he has never been recorded as doing actions to progress the ball in an above average way at the top level, even when playing for City. Our recruitment team will have access to the same data so they'll know that, which means they probably want him for other stuff OR think they can get him to start doing it, both of which strike me as strange.

I'd imagine Cole palmer's stats in those areas for man c were likely better too, which made the Chelsea transfer a lot less risky than say mcatee's.

do we wanna pay the English premium or can our scouts give us better value European or South American targets

strangely apart from Luiz and mcatee, there doesn't seem to be many midfielders esp the creative sorts linked to us.

Is that for City ?

Tbh I've watched him more playing for England.
