Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I don’t think Illy works at 10 mate, I actually don’t think he’s even a winger, he’s an inside forward.

Out wide Illy gets far more freedom, he generally has more space to operate in with less defenders then centrally in between the lines, ill also say Illy is more of a goal scorer and dribbler - he’s actually not a great creator for others. I don’t think he’s effective give at 10 despite the popular assumption.

As I said @bove, we need something different to what Fellows offers a Doak or Kubo, that creates to varying threats if Illy is in the left - so where do McNeill and or Fellows fit in support players and I think both offer to similar of a skill set, while Fellows has never done at this level to be pumping 12 mill into him in my opinion.

That would be my take.
"Into him"? Jesus H

No I get all that, that’s obvious. I was just commenting on how the the original post was framed. If it said ‘Moyes met with mcatee but the indication was he’s not interested so it won’t go any further’ that would make sense. It just sounded like it was saying ‘Moyes met with mcatee but we’re probably not going to try to buy him’ which doesn’t make a lot of sense. Generally speaking you don’t get as far as making your manager meet a player unless the intention is to take it further.

Yeah, sorry, guilty on this occasion of not reading the entire conversation.

RW, RB, LB in that order. We obviously need more on top of that but if we don't get three players in those positions, ideally by the start of the season, then we'll have had a bad window, imo.

The fume is growing,

If Moyes has met the player , there is absolutely no chance it happened without City's blessing.
To do so would mean we are prepared to meet their valuation & terms.

No way Moyes meets any random player under contract at another club to have a coffee & a chat.
It either did happen and we are actively pursuing McAtee or it didn't.

There is no grey area here.

Genuinely think people are getting way too doom mongery about the US trip, considering we have a decent record under Moyes over there
I'd argue we're not ready to face PL opposition yet, we're half a dozen or more players short - both in quality and quantity, and Moyes previous record in the US is irrelevant as it was quite some time ago different era with a vastly different team.

That’s honestly such a bizarre take. Either pre-season results matter (they dont) in which case failing to beat Accrington Stanley is hugely concerning, or they do (they still don’t) in which case Moyes having won some in the past makes absolutely ko difference to anything. I really don’t know what you were aiming for with that.

Still find the McAtee links weird honestly. Do we really need an attacking midfielder who's good at getting shots off but not good at progressing the ball and creating chances?

I think it’s a fair point about ndiaye. Not saying he doesn’t have it in his locker but at the end of the day he’s played 2 seasons at the top level and has a total of 5 assists (none in the PL), you’d have to say it’s at least possible that he just isn’t cut out to be a creative force. He’s looked very good playing wide as a direct attacking outlet, I wouldn’t move him from that role unless we have good reason to believe he will be better in a different role.
