Should Everton have done more in the transfer market by now?

Should Everton have been more active with transfers by now?

I'd say we're probably one signing behind where we should be at this stage. No need for panic as we're clearly going after quality, which takes time. If we're sat here on 1st August and we're not signed a RW or CM my opinion will have changed.

Agree, we can moan if we end up signing players who are a bit crap about why it took so long for that level - if we sign good quality then waiting has proven wise

Between a rock and a hard place as a club.
Compared to the last few seasons we're relatively fluid and as such are trying for the better and more expensive players. They obviously think we're too much of a risk still, so are swerving us. Whereas those less gifted players we're used to hunting are finding clubs.
So yes, I would have liked at the very least another above average player.

We’ve had until March last season to sort players out as we were well safe by then.
It’s the same old every close season though.
You should be getting players in as quickly as possible to bed them in. Always undercooked.

Yes, but we are currently viewed as a 1990s Coventry City right now - except they had won a trophy in more recent memory.

I expect we'll make a splash still - but it will go to deadline day when players run out of sexier options.

We finished stronger last season, got our finances under control, and the transfer market, though slow, is bearing results. If we’re free and clear by December, finish a few places higher, then next year’s market will bear fruit sooner. Success brings money and success attracts talent.

I'm sure there are reasons and excuses. I can't get past this every season in recent years, we are undercooked pre season, we dither as a club and may or may not complete signings by around the close of the window. By then the season is already weeks/several games old. How many wins do we get in August nowadays? They have to change this mentality so that we're ready for the start of the season not ready for September or October. FFS

Yeah about one behind is pretty fair I think.

One next week would calm nerves, and another by month end. I think that would be a minimum.

Not read the thread but I know @Goat historically doesn’t think you need the players in early and bedded in

I’ve always felt that you do
I would rather we signed everybody last week and had the squad ready to go.

But I understand why we dont/cant.

I do consider preseason a pointless exercise that does not reflect on the season to come.

The last 2 results are great tho, it highlights the issues we have with plenty of time left in the window to try and correct them.

The issues we have were highlighted for the entirety of last season and even before that.

I didn’t even watch the game and I suspect it highlighted that we lack pace on the right wing, quality delivery from the full backs and control in the middle of the pitch.

There will be a lot going on behind closed doors door and very few leaks anymore, don’t think anyone knew about Hill Dickinson before it was announced, Barry was mentioned during the 21 tourney and was signed within days of France being knocked out.

We signed Charley within days of the season ending(remember Gomez taking nearly 2 months) we also had a RB till he changed him mind last minute which happens.
Back up Goalie done within days, no 5/6/7 day medical.

Gana signing a new contract, Keane staying as 4th choice and a huge one in JB signing a extension on his contract meaning he here this season

I fully expect 2-3 in the 2 weeks, plates will be spinning and deals will be getting done.

Normal Everton would have bought no one, no Charley no Barry and JB will be up for auction and sold before we buy a load of rubbish players
