Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Think what helped Moyes a lot in his first spell here was that he was very much an early adopter of data and analytics (remember us having a link with Football Manager at some point?) so that probably gave us a bit of an upper hand. Since then football has moved on to a point where every club has entire departments dedicated to this. That’s not to say I don’t still trust his judgement but he’s certainly not the recruitment ‘messiah’ he once was.

See, I figured the same based on his Everton record until a West Ham fan come on here and told us he spent half a billion there.

I looked at the likes of Bowen an thought he'd spent well there. Turns out he spent £500m at West Ham and from the top 20 below - there's 2, Bowen/Kudus I'd want.

So let's not act as though he's a messiah and can't be scrutinised.

I get after years of misery, wanting to find optimism more than most this pre-season, but there's too much, almost blinkered Man Utd/INEOS type energy in this forum lately.
Of course his previous record warrants scrutiny, especially if as you suggest he’ll have the final say on transfers in the new “flatter structure”, however, there’s definitely some decent signings on that list beyond Kudus and Bowen;
Emerson, Paqueta, Soucek and Coufal from a cursory glance

471m euros.
= £408m

rice fee, £105m. nearly doubled through on paqueta but the bookies got him, made money kudus, scamacca £35.5m cost - £27m recouped, badly stung on zouma, same aguerd, same jwp, vlasic £27m paid - recouped £15m, Benrahma ~£21m paid - ~£16m recovered, cornet stung, soucek solid, mavropanos still there, emerson still there, kehrer signed £10m sold £9.5m, ings stung, downes bought £12m sold £15m, areola still there, phillips loan fee lunacy, coufal £5m for 5 years service.

6 seasons out of 7 at west ham, and the claim of half a billion spent is heavily caveated. players retire or leave for free.

pellegrini signed 10 players for a fee in his 11 months at west ham. 50m+38m+28m+25m+20m+11m+8m+4m+4m+2m, these needed integrating or moving along when they came crawling back. Haller at 50m euros in 2019 is a larger fee for a single player than Moyes ever signed for west ham.

Kind of runs similar to the % wastage we've seen here, made good fee's on Lukaku and Stones and sold a few youth products on (Rodwell, barkley) but subsequent mistake-managers threw money at problems they or previous had made and the situation got worse.
