My mum used to take us there to get a bath in the mid sixties,then 20 years later I was playing 5 a side in there every Thursday.

I played 5-a-side every week in the mid 1980s not far from there, in the Rock Centre Church Hall on Whitefield Road. Probably fitter now, and slimmer, than I was then. I blame the ale.

….played 5-a-side myself in The Rock around that time. Great Evertonian called Dave Wiggins also involved as we worked together around then, sadly Dave passed in the last few years but he was well known in EFC fan community and was a very decent footballer.

Mine was Alder Hey. Jealous of the kids who'd had their tonsils done. They got ice-cream.

Has just been on The Antiques Roadshow (from Sefton Park). Original scripts given by Oliver Postgate (the animator and story writer of this and Pogles Wood, among others) to a man who wrote to him as a young boy after watching episodes of Noggin The Nog to say how much he enjoyed them.

They became friends in later years and Oliver Postgate left him the original handwritten scripts of Nog. The antiques expert said they were something never seen before so plucked a price of £1,000 out of the air but said all it would need would be 2 rival bidders in an auction room and they could be priceless.

The tonsils were always accompanied by something called "the adenoids" (that's what it sounded like to me). Had them out when I was about 7.

Me too, our Doctor was known for sending children to have both out, maybe he was on commission or something.
