Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Ah we’re back to picking forwards based on how good they are at doubling up as a defensive full back.
Evertonians seem obsessed with defenders who are good going forward and forwards who are good defending. My God, what I'd give for defenders who defend well and forwards who are known for their attacking excellence. We seem to want Jacks of all trades - with the latest "Jack" living up to the requirement by name. It's specialists we need.

Depends how you phrase it.

If you’d said at the end of last season that by the middle of July Everton would have spent 42 million on a number 10 and a striker, with the striker being the biggest fee paid by the club since Onana, it doesn’t sound so bad.

Because Alcaraz was practically in the building anyway and everyone’s forgotten the Barry transfer now, it feels to some like we’re having a poor window.

I’m personally encouraged that we’re not getting into over bidding for players to get them through the door. We did that with Moshiri and ended up with players who didn’t want to be here for massive transfer fees and massive wages.

We got Barry in under his release clause. We didn’t take the option with Alcaraz and instead negotiated a separate deal. We didn’t offer Tete stupid money to gazump Fulham. This is the type of negotiating I’d much rather see, getting good value for players who actually want to be here.

People might call him dithering Dave but for me his judgement first time round was absolutely excellent in protecting the money we had and moving us up the table so I trust him to get the player he wants at the right prices and do the best thing for the club.
Your summary of what's happened so far is maybe a little bit puffed up to make it sound more impressive than it actually is. We didn't renegotiate on Alcaraz, we triggered the option to buy at the price we had already agreed in January. Barry was never going to be sold for his release clause, it wasn't hard bargaining on our part they just have to have a release fee in the contract in Spain but they agreed to sell him for less than the clause would have mandated them to sell him for, as is fairly standard. We offered Tete a contract but he had a better offer elsewhere and took it, there's little evidence that we would have ended up paying over the odds for him in the past to be honest, that's just an easy spin to put on it to say things have changed.

Like anything, whether it's been a good window and we've approached things the right way will be judged on what happens. If we keep our powder dry until late in the window and then pull off 3 or 4 absolute showstoppers who make a massive difference to the side then we can say they had the right approach. If we wait until late in the window and end up not managing to secure the reinforcements needed in certain positions and/or some panicky looking squad fillers are added for the sake of it then the narrative is going to be a bit different. If Barry is great and Alcaraz kicks on and Kenny Tete gets rinsed by Ndiaye when we play Fulham we'll all be lauding the genius of Moyes and Hammond, if Barry is a flop, we shoehorn Alcaraz in on the right because we didn't bring anyone else in and Tete is fulham's player of the season as they qualify for Europe we'll want them all hung drawn and quartered. That's football.

Nah, but I get what he’s saying.
The manager needs to be able to trust the player on the pitch.

As gash as Harrison is. He isn’t a walking disaster.
Makes your eyes bleed. Makes some crap passes, but Moyes doesn’t have to worry about him getting the run around on top of that.

But he offers zero going forwards so why on earth would we even stick him on the pitch. Complete waste of a wage.

Correct, he’s a very slowly crawling one.

Im not advocating Harrison btw. It’s not a route I’d choose to go down.
But I can see why Moyes or a manager in general, would rather want to have him to step in in emergency’s, than someone from the u-18’s.

Again, I can’t stress this enough. I agree he’s dreadful.

How many minutes did Harrison get to contribute 1 goal and 0 assists?
So? How many contributions did Heath have at senior level?

He scored 6 goals in U17 and 2 in PL2. Not exactly stellar. Omari Benjamin for instance scored 14 and 9 and he's younger. Braiden Graham is just 17, three years younger and actually scored 8 and 5. And those five in just 8 matches in PL2!

Just for comparison, Okoronkwo, who is same age as Heath scored 10 in PL2 and 3 goals in 22 matches in League Two.

Anyone who has a tiny bit of understanding of football knows all this.

But if all you want from your right winger is an ability to help the right back out you might as well stick Patterson out there to do that job. He might even stick in a half decent cross from time to time.

Well none because he didn’t play any minutes? What is the point in that question?

If he’d had the minutes Harrison had, personally I think he’d struggle to do much worse than the 1 goal contribution.

You’re fixating too much on Heath as an option. I just used him as an example to show what we have currently vs what we had last season and showing you there is no difference.
