Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

But this isn't the same team. Young, Doucoure, Harrison, Lindstrom, DCL and Mangala took part (starter or sub) in nearly 200 matches put together. Alcaraz partially covers Doucs (partially, because he too played in 16 matches already) and Barry covers DCL but rest are missing. We weren't even that badly hit by injuries, there were clubs far worse affected.
The others missing is a reason in itself...

Promoted teams always have money to play with and always need to try and improve their Championship squad.

Every single Summer 2-3 of the teams spend loads.

Every single Summer people on here get jealous of them.

Every single Summer most, if not all, those teams crash back down.
Every single Summer people say they wont be as bad as last year

Just a reminder . There are 46 days until deadline day. It is not today .
Thanks .
31 days until season starts. Would you really be happy to start the season with the current squad and hope Moyes pulls several rabbits out in two weeks?

And if players arrive late in pre-season they will not start in a Moyes team unless absolutely forced. Like, I bet Moyes would not play a right mid who arrived a few days earlier in the season starter.

Just a few months ago Moyes said this “There’s a stadium. It looks the business, it looks elite so we need to get some elite players so we can give something for everybody to shout about when we move into it.”

I imagine he’s gonna be pretty miffed with the hierarchy if they don’t deliver him some high quality players in the next couple of weeks, maybe not elite, but certainly a level or two above what we’ve got at present.

….maybe it’s nothing to do with the ‘hierarchy’. From what we know the owners tend to appoint individuals and leave it to them.

I’m more inclined to think Moyes and the recruitment team know the type of players they want but have strict criteria about fees and salary. They’ll know how much they have to spend and will be ensuring they’re not held to ransom, just as we saw with DCL and Doucoure contracts.

Depends how you phrase it.

If you’d said at the end of last season that by the middle of July Everton would have spent 42 million on a number 10 and a striker, with the striker being the biggest fee paid by the club since Onana, it doesn’t sound so bad.

Because Alcaraz was practically in the building anyway and everyone’s forgotten the Barry transfer now, it feels to some like we’re having a poor window.

I’m personally encouraged that we’re not getting into over bidding for players to get them through the door. We did that with Moshiri and ended up with players who didn’t want to be here for massive transfer fees and massive wages.

We got Barry in under his release clause. We didn’t take the option with Alcaraz and instead negotiated a separate deal. We didn’t offer Tete stupid money to gazump Fulham. This is the type of negotiating I’d much rather see, getting good value for players who actually want to be here.

People might call him dithering Dave but for me his judgement first time round was absolutely excellent in protecting the money we had and moving us up the table so I trust him to get the player he wants at the right prices and do the best thing for the club.
And that's without accounting for our most significant move of the summer: the retention of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Heck, I'm mad for us to spend big wonga on top players - but I'm reasonably happy with where we are at the moment. There's lots to do, obviously, but we've made some good moves so far. I remain hopeful. Let's see where we are on August 1.

Btw, Boyland's article in Athletic sounds like club has fed him a few lines to dampen expectations. "Almost signed a right-back but no" and "it's really hard to find a good right winger". Excuses incoming already?
