Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

With each window it becomes more and more obvious that footy fans (surely it can’t just be Evertonians that are this rabid?) don’t care about transfers, they care about transfer NEWS.

They would rather be fed spurious rumours daily than just wait for actual transfers to be announced. When we DO sign a player, there’s 5 mins of “yers” and then straight back to “it’s not enough! Where’s the rumours?!”

Probably normal in this day and age, like, but I’m dead old so it seems a bit mad.

Anyway, proper hope we sign Dougy Luiz, me.

Depends how you phrase it.

If you’d said at the end of last season that by the middle of July Everton would have spent 42 million on a number 10 and a striker, with the striker being the biggest fee paid by the club since Onana, it doesn’t sound so bad.

Because Alcaraz was practically in the building anyway and everyone’s forgotten the Barry transfer now, it feels to some like we’re having a poor window.

I’m personally encouraged that we’re not getting into over bidding for players to get them through the door. We did that with Moshiri and ended up with players who didn’t want to be here for massive transfer fees and massive wages.

We got Barry in under his release clause. We didn’t take the option with Alcaraz and instead negotiated a separate deal. We didn’t offer Tete stupid money to gazump Fulham. This is the type of negotiating I’d much rather see, getting good value for players who actually want to be here.

People might call him dithering Dave but for me his judgement first time round was absolutely excellent in protecting the money we had and moving us up the table so I trust him to get the player he wants at the right prices and do the best thing for the club.

Just a few months ago Moyes said this “There’s a stadium. It looks the business, it looks elite so we need to get some elite players so we can give something for everybody to shout about when we move into it.”

I imagine he’s gonna be pretty miffed with the hierarchy if they don’t deliver him some high quality players in the next couple of weeks, maybe not elite, but certainly a level or two above what we’ve got at present.

Even with our new overlords we aren’t the kind of club who can go and chuck “too good to turn down” money that gets transfers done immediately (see: Mbeumo to United). We are still shopping in the “yeah, sound, but we’ll need to sign a replacement first” category. Early transfers are nice to have, but we’ll have in what we need by the end of the window*, vault me.

*not a RB though. At this point I do firmly believe the club is trolling us on that one.

It was a response to Aries’ critique of our transfer pot/TFG that he evidenced by saying Roma has not spent anything. Apologies for not making it clearer.
Well they haven’t yet, have they?

And don’t twist what I actually said. I said they have it all to prove and that the budget was still an unknown entity, which it is. You can’t argue against it I’m afraid.
