Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Think he's far from underwhelming.

He looks a very good player in every department and will only get better as he progresses.
I’d find him a bit underwhelming. I’ve seen a fair bit of him and I wouldn’t say he’s screamed top class player. He’s definitely decent and could be as good addition, but he’d need to step up another few gears to be a genuinely good PL player and at 23 it’s far from a given that that’s just going to be a natural progression.

Think that goes for them all taking the leap from the Championship to the Prem.

It's a huge step but there's plenty of examples of it happening ie. Wharton.

Hackney possesses all the same qualities and little bit more.

It's a stick or twist for the likes of us , but I've no doubt another club will go for him.

It does, but I’d have to say I was more impressed by Wharton and he was 19 when he moved not 23 so the difference is actually pretty massive in that sense. Like I said, it’s not that I don’t think Hackney is good or that he couldn’t be a good signing, the question was whether he would be ‘underwhelming’, and I think he would. Obviously I’m not a pro scout and could be well off but I don’t see Hackney being the type who goes on to get 50 England caps, he just looks like the type who could become a solid PL player. That’s fine, but it’s also underwhelming.

Listening to the Bobble’s podcast (don’t judge me) and it seems excuses are already being made by saying Kinnear/Hammond have only been in their jobs since May etc.

I honestly think them going over to the US next week with the squad in the state it’s currently in is really poor tbh. We don’t have a single right winger and only have two first team quality centre mids.

I really want to be optimistic and hopeful but leaving most of our business until just before or even after the season’s started just screams Everton of old to me.

Only being in their jobs since May is a really crappy excuse. Can you imagine any other line of work where you could get away with saying that?

Let's be quite frank.
If Hackney was the type of player that was to go on and get 50 caps he would be firmly in the ridiculous price band.

There's a plethora of midfielders that look promising atm & he is just one of them.
You think he would be an underwhelming signing signing and that's fine.

Me ? Having watched Tom Davis et al roaming around our midfield for years I think he'd be a massive upgrade.
Would I like him here ....yes.
Would I want better ...of course.

It depends what you think of as ridiculous I suppose. You brought up the example of Wharton, who cost £18m. Is that ridiculous? Would Hackney cost less?

Again, the whole point was whether it would be ‘underwhelming’ not whether he was a decent player in his own right. If the bar we’re setting is ‘sign someone better than Tom Davies’ then I would say 99.99% of fans will see that as being underwhelming. If that isn’t the bar we’re setting then it’s kind of irrelevant.

As I’ve said, I think he’s a decent player who could potentially do well here, but he’s not someone who I’d be excited by. Not in a snobbish, never seen him but assume he’s no good way, but in a seen quite a bit of him and not sure he’s much better than what we’ve got way.
