2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

He will know after a couple of failed moves to Juve on loan and then to Brazil that this is chance to show what he can do for a sustained period.

Another one who will only get better if we add the likes of Luiz and some wingers for him to get to the ball to.

Middle aged man question coming up- what’s a “clutch” moment?

As someone else mentioned, it's essentially being able to come up with game winning moments.

I'm always interested to know where terms like this spring from. This one has been around in baseball since the 30s or something. "Clutch hitters" are those that can supposedly be relied on to get those late game-winning home runs.

The thinking is that some American sports writer was inspired by the poem Invictus "In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud."

I always thought it was simply a shortening of the phrase "Clutched victory from the jaws of defeat". Obviously not!

Newcastle game popped up on my youtube channel other day so i watched it. Extended highlights. Just a reminder how good this lad is or could be. Trying not to overhype him as it comes back to kick you in the goolies, but his heading was great. His movement was great. His control of the ball when moving up the pitch was great. His work ethic for the side was great.
Taken to this lad very quickly.

pinch hitter?

Some aussie's I knew that first season with Cahill described him as a 'gun'. I expect because he was lethal. Anywhere that dreams up 'aussie rules' as a game clearly has issues.

Re Alcaraz, any ideas on his injury record? is he able to tough it out at an AM for a full season? Doucoure brought that physicality and toughness that could be relied on, we've yet to see if CA can absorb repeated games punishment.

I think a pinch hitter is an actual thing, they bring them on as a sub.

A clutch hitter is more a concept. A game winner, someone that performs well under pressure. Though I guess a pinch hitter could also be a clutch hitter if that's what you mean!

I can definitely see Alcaraz as one of our clutch players anyway (and he seems pretty durable from what I can tell!)

FotMob lists him as 6'0".
No chance, he looks tiny next Jimmy Garner and he’s 5’ 11”
