Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Soucek would only be acceptable if signed along with another centre mid who adds some quality on the ball. If he was our only central midfield signing I'd be really, really disappointed. He does a job and will chip in with a few goals but he's adding very little in the way of progressing the ball which is what we are sorely lacking in there.

Got to be honest, I'd rather not take him at all given his age and the likely wages he'd want though.

Soucek gets you at least 10 goals a season along with even stronger defensive cover. I wouldn’t be concerned about that at all! The key is getting the balance right.
He's only got 10 league goals once in 5 seasons here, and it was his first season. Saying he gets you at least 10 seems like a bit of stretch I won't lie.

Soucek is a very good defensive midfielder who will grab you many goals. He’d be a great addition, but West Ham would be mad to sell. His value is relatively low due to age and contract duration.

Will West Ham do business? They seek in need of funds.

The midfield is too slow and too lightweight. We’ve lost a lot of speed, physicality and height with Onana and Doucoure leaving. They both had their obvious limitations but the ability to close ground, press opponents, close passing lanes, has gone. Alcaraz, Garner, Gueye, is not for me a trio that can impose their game on the opposition. Iroegbunam would help do that but is so raw.

Soucek isn’t my first choice but he would provide pace height and strength and would provide a tactical option to either play DM or attacking mid in certain games

We have to close this gap in midfield, we can’t move forward having one of the slowest lightweight midfielders. We’ll get ran over by most of the league no matter how many interceptions on the edge of his own area Gueye makes.

Yeah, I’m talking net. He got 9 and 10 the last couple of seasons. Saying “at least” is probably me getting carried away!

But his presence alone is worth more as he causes panic in the box, gets knockdowns, etc.

It would be more fair to say he's going to get you roughly 5-10 goals a season probably.
But don’t underestimate assists and the general nuisance factor of another big weapon in the box. Imagine other teams groaning whenever we get a corner!

We’ll also be even more protected at set pieces defensively. He’s really a defensive midfielder at heart. Hes got good bravery as well - not afraid to stick his head where it hurts and play on after getting whacked.

He's a big upgrade on Doucoure, in my opinion.

I agree he's not a player we should be spending money on. He's decent at what he does but is overall very underwhelming and a little like Doucoure someone you'll not progress massively up the table with as I expect he'd play the exact same role as Doucoure did

He’s only 30 lad.
Hardly Coleman/Young/Gueye territory.

Soucek does a decent job and contributes goals - £12m is a fair price and allows Moyes to spend big on a fast creative RW we all crave for
If this is genuine, then a one-year deal (provided the £12m is correct and the wages are under £100k/week), with an obligation for a second if certain targets are achieved,

If Year two is triggered, then we sell him to Saudi for double what we paid for him.

If they want more, they can FO.

If he wants longer, he can FO.

If his agent wants more wages, then they can both FO.

Soucek and pace in the same sentence?
