Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

12m is what we paid for Alcaraz on a 2 yr deal with an option. Why would we sign Soucek on a 4 yr deal? Shorter deals with options seems popular now.

Because he’s on huge wages and will want security to match what he’s got at West Ham. Alcaraz is probably one of our lower paid players, so from his point of view a shorter deal that can be renegotiated in 1 or 2 years to bring his wages up made more sense than the longer deal.

But he's only got 2 years left at West Ham. Why would we offer more? Would be bonkers.

He would be first team up until the moment Moyes left, which will be some time in the next 2 years, and then we’d be left with a 32 year old on £100k a week who’s surplus to requirements with probably another 2 years left on his contract. Let’s not start this cycle again imo.
Well yes I agree giving him a four year contract on 100kpw would be stupid

Giving him two years with an option of a third would be a good deal for both parties

Soutch' would be a good signing for two seasons, if the price was right. Absolutely waltzes into this current Everton team over Garner I'm afraid to say.

That said, we still need a passer in there as neither Gueye, Garner or Soucek are known for their dazzling array of passing.

Soucek coming in now, on the back of the likes of Keane and Coleman being re-signed and the lack of exciting additions we were hoping for, would be a quite concerning development and make me question just what we're actually aiming to achieve. Soucek coming in at the end of window after we've brought in 4/5 quality players in positions that are crying out for improvement would seem like a nice little piece of business. In short, he's not a bad player in his own right but if he's going to be a key signing this 'rebuild' is not going to be a lot of fun.

Maybe

Maybe Gana-Soucek with Alvarez or Ndiaye as the attacking midfielder tasked with getting assists, etc?

Soucek gets you at least 10 goals a season along with even stronger defensive cover. I wouldn’t be concerned about that at all! The key is getting the balance right.
