Confirmed Signing Mark Travers

Gauntlet thrown down to Pickford.
Excellent. Time for some proper competition. It’s what proper clubs do.

Pickford is our undisputed number one. It’s time somebody started to dispute that…as it benefits both players and the club. Travers isn’t good enough yet to dislodge him, but he’s good enough to threaten to. That’s a sweet spot for everyone.

Let’s just hope Pickford doesn’t get injured to begin with, don’t think it’s the worst signing we’ve ever made some premier league experience and still relatively young for a gk so can improve. I’d imagine he’s not on big wages and a relatively small fee paid under the circumstances it’s a smart signing.

Totally agree. It's messing with my head seeing people ask why he'd do it. Why on earth wouldn't you?!

I reckon it's much easier to be a back-up keeper than it is to be an outfield player who doesn't get games. They probably get to make more saves in 10 minutes of training than they will in most matches.

Might like playing actual matches and could sit on my arse later on
Yes, it was a rhetorical question. The point is, it's easy to understand why a player would make this move and the amount of people acting like it isn't is very strange. Reading a lot of the comments about Travers on here and Twitter you'd swear this is a situation that has never arisen before in the history of football rather than the totally normal scenario that it is. The idea of it being more ambitious to go and play at a lower level rather than continue at the higher level is a new one too.

Pickford has been largely excellent for the last 2 seasons. But I always expect him to be erratic again. If that happens Moyes needs to be bold and put Travers in and keep him in until he loses form.

Where’s the lad that was hoping he was signing to get free tickets only to be told by his mates he wasnt signing and it was all paper talk? Hope he is happy and gets some tickets off him

It's just weird at his age, there's maybe other decent quality keepers in their mid 20s at premier league clubs who are happy to never play but can't think of any.
