New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

The original renders all seemed to show EVERTON in large letters on the south stand glass frontage. They seem to have done away with that and gone with subtlety, presumably thinking that exterior is a very distinctive design that will soon be known and recognised nationally/internationally as OUR stadium.
I think that change was made before the final planning application, or certainly before the work started. It was definitely dropped from subsequent renders. I can't recall if there was an objection to it. But it was made clear that branding would make it plain that it was EFC's latest home.

Ye I wasn't too keen on that in the glass anyway tbf.

I was, and I wasn't tbh. I could see why it was part of that initial reveal, to force a clear connection etc. It also reminded me of one those South American stadiums with the club name emblazoned on a mostly plain side wall in massive letters, as the only adornment...... and the clearest "our house" statement. In a way, its omission possibly also left the door open for the "Tesco store" jibes.

Think I read it was not allowed in the planning approval.

Number 1: That event he speaks of in terms of opening Goodison was not our 'first home game' there - that was later on, and that event he alludes to was a mere gala event with no football. We play our 'gala' event against Roma in a curtain raiser on August 9th, NOT Aug 24th.

Number 2: when are these tragical history tour Evertonians going to stop banging on about Goodison? It's gone. This new stadium is where we're at and they need to start looking to the future instead of trying to appeal to a sense of nostalgia.

Roma are only selling tickets for the lower part of the away end (at the moment anyhow)

I couldn't agree more. The "nostalgia" of Goodison was all that Kenwright left fans with after his disastrous tenure. Pure sentiment. And the great thing from Kenwright's perspective was that it required no investment as it was cost-free to him. Perfect.

Had we actually won a few things at Goodison during his day - and had he sold us to proper investment when the chance was there - perhaps we would never have had to move. More to the point, had he "ringfenced" the money he said he had ringfenced, we'd have been at the Docks 20 years ago...

But now Goodison belongs to the women and it's time to demand the best at the Dock. They could start by painting the place to take that industrial unfinished concrete look off it, giving it some Everton character, making it less functional and more spiritual, and, for heaven's sake, getting rid of the horrible, unsightly detritus on the roof of the main structure before painting it.

Nobody will tell me that this isn't behind schedule due to the cock-up on the steel finishing. We can't have overhead cameras on opening day showing up a pile of scaffolding, no matter how neatly it is parcelled up there. It's the equivalent of a builder's crack adorning a lovely fitted kitchen.

That was just a 'placeholder' i.e. somewhere where they had identified branding could be located but wouldn't necessarilly put something there.

It was more for stadium naming rights than anything and it appears they have gone down a different route with Hill Dickinson.

Prefer to have the glazed ends completely clear as they are a massive feature of the stadium.
