Does Coufal as cheap cover make sense given O’Brien is excellent there? Then we have central and wide cover - O’Brien can come central if necessary but we’d still be covered in case of a crisis.

Coufal isn’t even better than Patterson so why even bother?

He’s cheap and older, so could be a one season cover signing like Keane and then there is space next season when we have additional funds. Would just be a short term option.

He’s the sort of guy who can come in and do a competent job and then walk into the sunset.

If I’m honest I think people went a bit overboard about o’briens performances at right back. He showed he was a good footballer but he had some very average games in my opinion, and people just got a bit giddy because he wasn’t ashley young and we were getting decent results. I’m not sure I’d like to see him there long term, I feel like it could be a bit like when Godfrey’s initial form at full back didn’t last, but obviously I’d love to be wrong.
