Great! In Italy RAI still offers Teletext services and since the 80s each Serie A team gets a dedicated page. Though born in 1991, I've developed a strange fetish for teletext and I read it daily. )

That wasn't what the conversation was about though, it was always about stats, somebody was just talking about looking at slightly less basic stats than the ones which were being put forward. Nobody said the only way to judge things was through stats, that's a straw man you've made up.

Think we’ve got to spend a little bit to bring in a competent keeper. All it takes is one Pickford injury and you’re in trouble. The backup needs to be good enough to step in

Only need 7/8 players, we've signed more than that in the last 3 summer windows when our budget was zero

And that was with absentee owners

I do think it's slightly more complex than that to be fair.

Signing the number of players isn't really a big deal at all, the issue is that we're trying to sign both numbers and quality. What I mean is, we're a side that hasn't finished higher than 10th for 5 years trying to break into the European places - and so looking to significantly increase the quality of the squad - but also trying to bring in half a squad just so that we've got the required numbers. On top of that, the signings aren't being financed by outgoings as would usually be the case. We've effectively lost 8 players who were regulars in the matchday squad last season without receiving a penny for any of them.

I am surprised that Leeds have not attempted to sign Ramsdale, considering that he would want to be playing in the Premier League and Leeds would probably want a goalkeeper to replace the awful Meslier.

But some players have break out seasons which are entirely repeatable. E.g. Mo Salah in the premier league. Just watching a player is still the best guide.

Salah’s breakthrough season came on the back of multiple good seasons in Italy and was then put in the most beneficial system for him to succeed.

If you watched Salah play for Chelsea, you probably wouldn’t think he’d go on to be the best in the world.

I’d also assume Salah’s conversion stats are pretty consistent…which is the point we’re making.

Part of the challenge of getting so many in is how inter-linked the deals are.

Now that Tete hasn't signed, do we need to find an alternative free or use £10m from the midfielder budget.
