Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

That, and we were the only ones who put a bid in for him.
Nobody else saw any value in his release clause.
It's nothing to do with other clubs, his club was in the CL but he chose to leave to come to the PL because that's what players do. His release clause is also nothing to do with it, people have got hung up on releases clauses because they seemingly don't realise that they're just part of all La Liga contracts, you don't actually have to pay the fee and that isn't necessarily what their market value is, it's just an agreed figure which guarantees buying them out of the contract.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics! What about all the chances that he created that weren’t finished? I’m sure I read somewhere that those figures were huge. So in reality his figures could’ve/shoud’ve been higher.

Watched both videos of Doak and Fellows. What I noticed was majority of Fellows assists/crosses were pin point to the back post, be ideal for a Beto or Barry.

Doak looks more technical, gets right to the byline, lots of lower crosses to feet or across the box. Might be more suited for a poacher or a side who flood the box.

I'm not 100% sold on either, but both look dangerous and the amount of chances created and assists remind me of Bowens time in the championship. I'd personally go for Fellows, really don't want us paying extra for Doak because he's a red.

We have to get most of our deals this summer right. I am personally not sure Hackney has the athleticism for the PL but he is tidy and has a good football brain. Same for Fellows who is not pacy and is a bit of a one trick pony (step over, shuffle wide, dink cross) but works hard defensively. I think pace and size matter in Moyes teams but he does value technical ability (Arteta, Pienaar, Osman etc.) and work rate so if he decides someone like Hackney or Fellows fit despite their limited physical upside I would not argue with him.

Roma are a huge club, for me, any football fan should be aware of both teams, as you say, The PL reach is huge, but most from the UK grew up with Serie A as the only real footy on Tele, so Romas name rings out, but like you, I can only speak as an English football fan.

I dont really agree with this tbh.

Roma are a big club in Italy but i think thats mainly due to them being a main stay in the league. They havent won very much and even them winning the league in 2001 was more like when Leicester won it then a milan winning it.

In fact during the 90s when Italian football was at its peak they didnt do anything, they were in Europe once in 91 then didnt do anything till 2001.

I think there pretty much the same level as us if im honest. Big club but not a elite level club.

Correct, but Villarreal can hold other clubs to it if they don’t want to sell, and that is what they did. Can’t see how that has nothing to do with his value, that was literally the price we had to pay to buy him. Other Clubs didn’t think he was worth that.

He was locked into a 4 year contract worth £15,000 a week that he signed last summer.
He’ll be on at least 5 times that here, and it’s guaranteed for the next 5 years.

I think Hackney has enough to make the step up, in a position where you can excel without being an a grade athlete.

fellows isn’t fast enough for me. I want someone blisteringly fast

No, not really. That "expected assists" figure includes every chance he created whether it was finished or not

It's all about whether you buy into the data stuff (but most clubs do now use this - Everton have literally just bought an entire data analytics company and the guy who ran it is now our head of data analytics) but essentially it works exactly the same way as xG - Fellows, if people had converted an average number of chances he created based on the quality of the chance created, would have ended with 7 assists. He's a massive statistical outlier.

Now the decision you'd have to make is whether or not that was a fluke and going forward he'd revert more to the mean, or whether he really does have magic in his boots that mean players are going to finish far more of the chances he creates than they would for anyone else.
