I thought exactly the same Eggs, he is usually one of the main men for Villa directing them from all over the field but at times last season Villa looked like they were carrying him and I think he was subbed a couple of games. Mind you I think we are debating a non starter.

I think he was just fatigued by the extent of games he was playing which included Europe, by like you stated it's probably moot

Not sure he's the same natural athlete as Barry though mate.

McGinn's game relies in a large part on engine, if that regresses at all, hes not the same player - big sports science question there given his age.

I watched him a few times coming back from injury and hes woeful until hes match fit, then when he is ive seen him win games by himself by dominating the midfield.

Would love a player like McGinn. Box to box, engine room, breaks up play, doesn’t let other sides settle. He would be a fan favourite if he remains fit and keeps his legs

Not the age profile we would like to sign but a good player and I think Villa need to raise funds.

No problem with signings like this as long as we also sign a few younger players as well.

Just a correction - we (Villa) don't need to raise funds. We have now problems with money but SCR. We need to bring down the wage bill to be UEFA competition compliant to something like 70% of income. We won't be selling McGinn, though, either way.

I wouldn't put them in anything like the same bracket to be honest, either in playing style or what role they would take on in the squad.

….he’s nowhere near Gareth Barry’s quality at this stage of his career. If you’ve watched him recently he’s been very poor.

I see it the other way think it shows what moyes is looking for in the midfield at cm, that he is looking for experience and somebody who can come in and start.

Beast when he’s on it, Villa desperately need to clear their books. To random not to have a bit of truth to it.

This is kind of my thinking on the matter, tbh. I like him, and think he'd do well here. Him and Gana together, especially in tougher games, would be a pretty formidable CM. Could also do a job a bit further forward.
