Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I agree on buying a mix of players but the older players should be on low fees. Their wages are usually much higher which I assume Luiz’s are too.

It’s not just Brighton is it. It’s also Bournemouth and Brentford.

We shouldn’t be trying to have a quantum leap up the table like Moshiri tried. We should be building each year. Top half should be the aim next year, Europe the year after.
The older players should be the best we can (responsibly) afford.

Bournemouth and Brentford are also selling clubs, with no greater ambition than upper mid-table. For eternity. Our ceiling is much higher and that’s the attitude we should have.

I agree that we can’t expect next season to be a staggering improvement and that progress must be gradual, but if we’re in a position where we could make a couple of signings where their impact NOW is the bigger consideration… that’s fine. Again, responsibly of course, and again provided it’s not the only thing we do (which is what Mosh era-Everton got stuck on). But I suspect TFG will grasp the balance far more effectively than Mosh / Kenwright ever did.

Moyes average age in buying players for everton is around 23 years old.

At West ham he average around 27 years old. Moyes shifted towards more seasoned players at West Ham.

At Everton was more based on long term planning where West ham was more now. I assume moyrs will go the West route this time as he getting older.

Different players suit certain leagues and styles by the way. I wouldn’t get too hung up about him not impressing in Italy. We don’t play in Italy, we play in England. The only thing that matters is does our league suit him as a player? We all know the answer to that one. Luiz would be a massive boost to our midfield that is crying out for a bit of quality.

Totally disagree. Players are playing far longer past 30 nowadays than they ever have before.
I've been reading James Corbett's Everton: The School of Science and you'd be shocked how long the old boys played. Jack Taylor left Everton in 1910 at the age of 38. Ted Sagar spent 23 years with the club, till he was 43. Joe Mercer left Everton at 33 and played another 10 years for Arsenal.

Jeez. Here we go again. Now we shouldn’t be signing players who are only 27 years old. Even if they’d be great for us. Absurd.

You can’t have us simultaneously sign young players with potential and also make a quantum leap up the league table next season. Some signings can be made that don’t offer everything. In this instance we could certainly disregard the resale value option.

Sure, City, Liverpool, sign younger players… but those players are also the best because they are sufficiently attractive as clubs. Plus it wasn’t always like that. They had to build. And Brighton? Well it’s their schtick. A selling club, though. I don’t want that for us; I want us to become a destination for big names rather than (exclusively) a place players come to build a reputation before vanishing.

Which means…. this summer - and for a few more summers - we want a MIX of players. Some young, dripping with potential / future value… and yes some established for whom the end of their time with us won’t bring with it a windfall.

So sick of the various - multiple -hurdles some of our fans obsessively impose upon any potential signings. Sounds wise, but IMHO is ludicrously one dimensional.
We need some established prem players as well. 27 ain’t a bad age. 3 or 4 good years at that price is worth it.

That sounds fine. It’s just completely bonkers that a 27 year old player who would clearly improve us should be disregarded because of a dogmatic obsession with buying young.
You're right, of course, but if he had 3 good years here we'd be left with a player with not much of a sell-on value. That's always a consideration. That being said, as long as the rest of your trading is younger players who you can make profit on, you can afford the odd more experienced player who won't ever make you money back.

Luiz is very much a deep-lying "playmaker", we all know this. If he came and performed like he did during his final season at Villa, the questions over his age wouldn't even be raised. As I've said already today, his set pieces alone would get us goals.

Moreover, If we get him feeding the likes of Ndiaye - who is the same age Leon Bailey was at the time of Luiz btw - then I can see the mechanics working in my mind.

The 3 teams you mentioned above mate have done absolutely nothing of note.

People seems to hold these teams in some strange regard...they live to exist mid-table buying and selling players on at profit, nothing more.

I think you can quantum leap up the table by being aggressive in the transfer market and signing better players than you already have...IE Newcastle and Forest.

Luiz at 27 would be an excellent buy, these are the transfers that will improve Everton.

This been said it probably won't even happen,so we've all wasted an taking about it

We have done similar to them, though, mate. Look how we found Branthwaite and what his value is now. The other side of the argument is that you need the slightly older heads in the squad more often than not. I say older when I'm almost 40, Luiz is 27!
Well I’m older than you

Happy with older players but I wouldn’t want to pay what I assume Juve would want for him. If he’s a loan or less than £20m great.

In addition to Gana's contract extension, we will have another three in by Sunday the 13th of July.

No need to thank me.

Blessed Sunday to all and you're welcome.
