Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think he’s a great player and have been all for it all Summer. Just realised he’s 27 already. If we spend £40m we are very unlikely to get anything back from him.

Maybe not the way we want to go this time.
Maybe like €30m. Yes, he has no resale value in particular the club may give him a 5 year deal.

Not that I reckon there’s any substance in the Gallagher shouts, but I’ve always thought he’s the player Tom Davies looked like he was going to be when he first broke through.
I've always thought Gallagher might be one of those players who's much better than what he shows or what he's shown so far.
I mean he's always been a little disappointing when he's clearly got talent.
Moyes could get him going, although I'm not getting too excited by the rumours, I've been too Evertonised over the years.

Out of all the players City, Liverpool and Chelsea have bought so far this year it looks only Reijners is over 24.

That’s the route we should go down.
In fact, most teams bought young players and that should be how it works. Like Brighton. How on earth Brighton got like 40 first team players in their squad and half of them are internationals.

Mate, no offence, but were you thinking of resale value when we signed the likes of Lukaku? I know the likes of Bolasie and Sigurdsson are counter arguments and make people cautious, but sometimes you need to sign a player at their peak to bear the fruit so to speak.

Also, I have my doubts that City were thinking of resale value when they signed Reijnders. They are wanting to improve themselves.

This has a figure of 15m euros, not sure where you’re seeing 40m? He’s literally only just turned 27 too so a four year contracts sees him spend his peak years here 27-30/31. For that price it’s a no brainer.

We signed Gueye 68 years ago from Villa when he was 27 also by the way.

We signed Lukaku aged 21 so not sure the relevance. If all the better teams are signing younger players then there’s usually something in it.

In any event I think that talking about 27-29 being peak anymore isn’t true. Most of the players are playing much better and earlier in their career.

We paid £8m for Gueye - not the same. Juve paid £42m for him last year. Will they really be selling for £27m less a year later

Jeez. Here we go again. Now we shouldn’t be signing players who are only 27 years old. Even if they’d be great for us. Absurd.

You can’t have us simultaneously sign young players with potential and also make a quantum leap up the league table next season. Some signings can be made that don’t offer everything. In this instance we could certainly disregard the resale value option.

Sure, City, Liverpool, sign younger players… but those players are also the best because they are sufficiently attractive as clubs. Plus it wasn’t always like that. They had to build. And Brighton? Well it’s their schtick. A selling club, though. I don’t want that for us; I want us to become a destination for big names rather than (exclusively) a place players come to build a reputation before vanishing.

Which means…. this summer - and for a few more summers - we want a MIX of players. Some young, dripping with potential / future value… and yes some established for whom the end of their time with us won’t bring with it a windfall.

So sick of the various - multiple -hurdles some of our fans obsessively impose upon any potential signings. Sounds wise, but IMHO is ludicrously one dimensional.
